Bad Injector Questions
first off i need to give a little history.
the truck dropped and injector at ~47k, it flooded the crankcase with fuel, burned up the turbo, and made a general mess of the truck. i was running the edge ez on #4.
took the truck to the dealer, they put on a new injector, inj. pump, and turbo. all under warranty.
in the mean time the warranty was voided on the engine due to the performance part. i have been in contact with DC, and they are not gonna change the void. i am still running an edge ez.
i now have 98,500 on the clock, and last week the truck burned 3/4 tank in 150 miles while my fiance was driving. i had her check the oil level and it was up above the full mark. i took it to the dealer and told them what was happening. they called back the following day and said that i need a new injector, inj. pump, and turbo. once it was determmined that i was gonna pay out of pocket, i asked how much was REALLY wrong with the truck and why the inj. pump is being replaced.
they called back and said they the turbo is fine, and the inj. pump was being changed as a precaution and it was assumed it was under warranty at the time. they now think that i can get by with a new injector and an oil change.
does this sound right?
can a bad injector kill a pump?
i understand the turbo can crap out, due to the thinned oil in the bearings.
they are quoting ~850.00 for a new injector and oil change.
i will not be running the edge anymore. going back to stock.
hope that made sense....
thanks, chris

I sure hope a bad injector doesn't cause the pump to go because I just had three new injector puts in under warrantee (#1,3,6). Only difference is I dont know why DC thought they were bad I dont seem to have any fuel in my engine oil the level has not changed since I did the oil change. My only problem was my truck wouldn't start worth a darn esp. when it got warmed up to temp. Problem seems to be better now tho. Hopefully I dont loose a turbo too. I feel you pain and confusion, sorry I couldn't help.

Most EZ issues I ran into on 03 arose from the increased rail psi, but that usually ended up taking out the psi relief valve. I did have one that once we installed a new psi relief valve and got the engine running we found it would not meet the psi that the ecm wanted. That one got a new pump.

does the pressure relief valve allow the fuel to flood the crankcase? if so that may well be the problem. i have it at the dealer being repaired as i have no way to diagnose these problems.
thanks, chris

I cracked an injector (#6) on tuesday. The dealer had one in stock and replaced it in a matter of about 3 hours. Probably would have been shorter time but I was bsing with the tech the whole time. He said that I shouldn't worry about anything since I never let it fill up with oil too much before I had it changed. Two times I pulled into a quick lube and had them drain and refill the oil in the 40 mile trip to my dealership where I bought it. all together it cost me 2 oil changes @ $50.00 each and my $100.00 dedictible plus a fuel filter change out of my pocket @ $60.00? So about $260.00 total and a $500.00 injector replaced under warranty. I had a p0251 code pop up a while back and when looked up the code is for the injector pump. which is on order but has nothing to do with the cracked injector. but another $2500.00 worth of parts covered under warranty.
