Bad injector?

I've got an 07 5.9, (truck in my sig), that has been doing awesome for 66,000 miles, with no problems whatsoever. Drive it everyday, and it never skips a beat. Came out this morning and fired her up like I do everyday to warm up, and everything was fine. Went back in to finish getting ready, and when I came back out about 10 minutes later it was pooring out white smoke and missing really bad. Sounds like an injector to me, but its just really weird the way it happened all of a sudden like that. What do yall think? I'm gonna pull everything off of it this afternoon and take it to the dealer. Should be fixed under warranty, but what do yall think caused that?

Are you running only the stock fuel filter??

If you are not filtering your fuel down to 2 microns, you should consider doing so....particularly adding extra pressure to it.

Ya i'm just running the stock filter as of right now. I run the fleetguard filter in the stock canister from cummins. I know I need more filtration, just don't have the money for an airdog right now

My 07 lost an injector with 17,000 on it and that was WITH extra fuel filtration to 2 microns. LOL But it was an isolated incident I think. Mine just started to PUFF a tad of white smoke after start up. No real rough running.

Its just weird the way mines been fine, and was even fine when I first fired it up, and then out of nowhere, running rough, and white smoke. Weird deal. May be something other than an injector?

Plus, I don't wanna void my warranty yet, and when you mess with the fuel system, even though its in the best interest of your truck, they'll blame it on you

Check out glacier diesels filter kit, way cheaper than an airdog, plus would be simple to pull if you wanted warranty work done. The dealer that just put six new injectors in my 06 at 55,000 said that it would be a good idea. Didn't say anything about voiding my warranty. Just put the kit on today went on easy and gives me some peace of mind to know that the next injector change wont be on me at 110,000.

Yeap, you lost an injector. Heard of this happening before. Crank it up, running fine, next thing you know it starts skipping, etc.

The weird thing is that it stopped?? It did the exact same thing two mornings in a row, then the past 2 days its been fine. Took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't do anything if they couldn't get it to do it. So the past 2 mornings its been fine. I did put a bunch of power service in it and ran it pretty hard trying to clear it up, so maybe it worked I dono. Maybe just had some bad fuel. I did notice though that this morning right when I fired it up, a puff of white smoke came out, and that was it, no rough idling or anything though. I think this thing is trying to play with my head. Can't decide what it wants to do

i know when my injector first started giving me problems was right after i started it up. it missed really bad and the truck shook a lot. i only had the truck for a couple months so i didn't even know to watch the exhaust to see what was going on. then last november the injector took a crap on my for good. left me on the side of the highway for 2 hrs...i was in route to see family for turkey day. it turned out that my #5 injector solenoid shorted out and the computer went into a limp mode and shut off cylinders 4,5, and 6. talk about a power loss.
