Bad fuel cap?

This was weird. I’m towing my travel trailer with my 2005 Ram 3500 6 speed up a pass in Montana. The truck starts cutting out with a fuel supply issue. A similar thing happened before and my mechanic fixed it with a fuel pump solenoid replacement. This time my wife simply removed the fuel cap and the sounds indicated that there was a vacuum in the fuel tank. The tank even made a banging sound like it was reinflating. Then I could drive for 15 miles or so before it happened again. I am going to replace the fuel cap, I think it may be plugged instead of vented. Any ideas?
Thanks, Rick
