I hope it would!

J10495T,

Do you have any fuel upgrades? Are you running a 7 or 10 micron filter in the stock housing? What exactly is wrong with the fuel, is it just tons of dirt and grit or something else like severe water contamination?

Thank you for your help!

Ollie32,

The fuel manifold is the rail. If looking at the truck from the front, it is on the right side of the engine and has a nice warning sticker on it telling you about the extreme fuel pressures. Its a common manifold for high pressure fuel from the CP3. Each injector is then fed from the rail.

Here is a picture that shows part of the rail, its at the base of the arrow. Just up from the arrow is the orange warning sticker I was talking about.

Good advice.

and make sure to take it from the bottom of the tank, so you get all the "good" stuff.

The manifold is the "common rail" that distributes the fuel to the 6 injectors.

I don't have any fuel upgrades - I am running a stock fuel filter that was just changed 1 week prior to my trip.

what happened is I sucked the bottom of the tank at the shell. Even when i was filling up i though I should maybe stop as the pump was really slow but I didn't want to have to stop again - LESSON LEARNED.

I'm always leary when the pumps are slow. That means they're pump filters are dirty. I also don't fill up if I see a tanker dropping off. They just stir the tank. I keep driving to the next station. However, most of the time I hear about water in the tanks. Not dirt.

You are driving Jeep's thirstiest model. I have one. You can literally watch the gas guage move... hopefully they get the work done for you quickly.

That is exactly what I have. I only drive it in the city and it has sat at 13mpg since I bought it a year ago. The shifting system is pretty cool, but it is sluggish between gears. I had a VW Passat with that feature and it would snap from gear to gear.

Hopefully everything goes as planned with your truck. Good Luck!!!

UPDATE - ok well it took two weeks of insurance approval and parts collection but the truck is fixed. Final tab just under $9,500. One thing I have noticed is I really don't blow any smoke at all. When I used to punch it it left out a pretty nice cloud and then cleared up. Any reason this would be except everything is new.

I also am leaving the Max Mileage off to see what my mileage is and then I will put it back one for good base numbers again.

Thanks,

Jay

Just for future reference, I am wondering if my insurance would cover a similar bad fuel problem. Is it part of your comprehensive?

Service was pretty good, but I think anyone would be nice with that repair bill. I have always delt with Michelle Silva and she does a good job.

All it takes is a slug of water to do all that damage, when u get bad fuel its mostly water contamination and algae that cause all the problems. Water causes the fuel pump to gall, injector tips to blow off and fuel rails to rust, not good, at least they got it all fixed up for you.

Correct I am glad they replaced everything. The service guys told me they had a similar problem on another truck and insurance only replaced a few things. 2 days later they had to buy a new cummins motor as it has seized.

Anybody have some insight as to why I blow almost zero smoke now. Previoulsy I would get a large cloud on downshift to WOT.

Thanks,

Jay
