Auto shifts like 6sp

Site is addictive. I bet I've read 5,000 posts and I'm glad I found you all.

Here's my deal. When my auto shifts from 1st to 2nd (unloaded) it shifts like I pushed a clutch in on the 6sp.
Forward motion hesitates, RPM hold and then 2nd gear goes in, RPM rise about 200 and no more issues.
So it's this shift that I am asking for your ideas on.
Does not do this when loaded, ever. Not even with a 5x8 trlr empty. But as soon as nothing is hooked to one of the hitches it makes me think I'm in the other truck. It has done this from the 3rd month of being new.

TIA
New guy

Doesn't sound normal for 48RE behavior, has the dealer looked at it? I realize you're at 95k+ miles, did you purchase the extended warranty?

Mine has a near constant pull from 1st to 2nd; no gap or hesitation like you've described. Sounds like it may need a slight adjustment, but I'm no expert on autos.

Good luck and welcome to DTR.

eastmentCTD600, thanks for replying. Yes Dealer has had it a number of times and done mysterious adjustments. Doesn't get off the lot good and same issue.
Here is the good part. About 4mos ago they did a pan service and found a little C shaped cotter key type thing on the magnet. They said no idea where that came from after having it 3 days. Will try to post a pic of it.
I do have extended warranty and I wear them out!!!!

By the way, I was die-hard Powerstroke until I bought these 2 trucks. Can't believe I was in the dark all these years.

there is 2 places that that c-clip could have came from. The first being the parking gear engagement rod on top of the valve body and the second is the shuttle shift valve. If it came off the shuttle shift valve this may be your shifting issues. take it to a differnt dealer. the one you have been going to sounds like a bunch of idiots.

Great news. I will use the words Shuttle Shift Valve and we'll see if their light bulb comes on. Thank you for the insight.

No help!

The dealer said that there is no way the C-clip could have come off.
Ok, so why is this one floating around (well stuck to the magnet) in mine?

Can someone point me to a Tranny shop in DFW that does quality work and will tell the truth?
or
Can lift the truck and see for myself and/or put the C-clip back on myself if I find the place its missing from (shuttle shift valve) I hope.

Thanks

i have a 2006 CTD 2500 with the 48RE and i just noticed 2 days ago that it does the exact same thing. The truck is brand new, 435 miles, so i was just thinking that it was the way they shifted. It will go up in RPM, then take a quick pause, raise like maybe 100 RPM and then kick into 2nd....im not seeing a 200 RPM increase but i am seeing a little bit of one...Jason

Mine got just a little worse over time. I'm not complaining, its just a barelt noticeable difference. Truck is awesome even with this little hitch.

I can't say that you would have a C-clip floating in your pan (I hope not) but should you get an answer to it please let us know. I will also.

All, the 1-2-1 (at light throttle) hunting appears to be normal (at least to TDR members)....some say to reset the APPS (throttle by wire)...by disconnecting the batteries for an hour or so.....it helped with mine, but it's not completely gone...just give it a little mo go pedal or have a load on it and it goes away.

Did the APPS reset this weekend and no help. Left the batteries disconnected over night.

Took 5 minutes to get the alarm to shut up!
