Just picked up some Valvoline Premium Blue (15W-40) on sale at the local Flying J - buy 1, get 1 free. The sign said on sale for month of March.

 

I thought the flyn' hook stop selling Valvoline nation wide last year? I bought the last 2 cases from mine when they had the 2 for 1 sale. I guess I beter check again. Another 3k miles till the next change.

Is this for the CJ-4 premium blue? What happen to the rumors of Premium Blue Classic? (CI-4+?)

 

I just bought a 5 gallon pale of PB a few weeks ago and the label still said CI-4.

 

Just saw the 2 for 1 at the J this morning. for what it's worth I recently purchased a 08 Durango for the wife to drive, so I could keep the cummins for me only. I had the first oil change on it ,and the dealer uses pennzoil 5w-20 for it. also only 29.95.

 

Good price, interesting with oil hitting $109 a barrel yet they can still run a 2 for 1 deal on oil.

 

I had the same thought when I was buying the oil - so I went ahead and got enough for the next two years of oil changes. Too bad it isn't 2 for 1 for a gallon of diesel.

 

At those prices, I might start using it in the Harleys. HD oil is about $5 a quart! Not syn either, just 20/50 dino stuff.

The Premium Blue at Flying J does NOT have written on the bottle CI-4 Plus on the bottle...the "PLUS" oil that has a higher TBN ( used only on pre particulate trap engines that can use the zinc additive) according to a test performed to Turbo Diesel Regestry. In other words they are probably dumping their old formulated oil for a newer formulation coming out later this year.
