Valvoline Maxlife ATF says it is ATF+4 compatible and Amsoil has an universal ATF that is ATF+4 compliant.
Can't remember which board I read it on, but I think there is a place called Murphy's that has Mopar ATF+4 for $4.99. Based on that, I'm hoping it'll start appearing on discount parts stores soon.
By Law, a company can not require you to use thier fluid that can only be had from them. If they do, they have to give it away for free. Because of this and ATF+4 only seeming to be available for sale at dealers, the FTC needs to do something. Maybe we need to start complaining to the Government to enforce the Magnuson Moss Act.

I think I found ATF+4 answer. DC got it and are going to keep it.

Does it make anyone nervous that the Amsoil stuff is "universal"? I would think that for each make's specs you would need different properties. Some that are oppsites from others.
For example the "F word" states that MerconV is all that can go in my Explorer. And even goes as far to warn against universals that a fluid can't be compatable with both MercV and the older standards.

Go to the head of the class. "Universal" = snake oil when it comes to transmission fluids, period.

There was a thread whereby a 2nd gen was denied warranty by 3 dealers because he had Amsoil in the tranny. Truck was down for 5 months.

But snake oil? Don't think so.

Right now NO one sells ATF +4 except DC and AMSOIL ATF which is ATF+4. Most other places will sell you ATF+3 with a modifier that they say will make it ATF+4

Sorry, didn't mean to be so terse, the 'period' comment was just meant to deter the usual five or ten subsequent posts quoting Amsoil as saying that their ATF is appropriate for every vehicle ever built. That can get old fast.
What I don't understand is how one fluid can possibly be 'universal' when several of the various formulations it is supposed to replace are quite different. That just doesn't pass the smell test to me. Also, if you use real ATF+4 (as DC clearly states is mandatory) you are assured of using the correct fluid. If you use Amsoil you 'might' (best case) be using an acceptable fluid. I don't think Amsoil is much cheaper than ATF+4, in fact I think it is more expensive(?). In any event why in the world would anyone take a chance?
Is that a reasonable thought process?
