Question ATF+4 Additive

The trans shop that is doing my flush recommends using an ATF+4 additive for my 48RE. I'm using Amsoil ATF and they don't recommend using an additive so I was curious what your thoughts were on this.

Did they tell you why?? I've had my tranny flushed a few times now from different shops including the first one from the dealer and NO ONE has said a need for an additive...

FWIW... when Goerend gets my tranny to me, I'll be using AMSOIL ATF too...and no additives.

If you use Amsoil AFT you don't need any additive mixed with your fluid. I have Amsoil ATF in my 06 48RE right now and have no problems. BTW I've used Amsoil in every Dodge trans I've owned for the past 7 years and have never had a transmission problem. So in plain words tell them to keep there additive and save your self a few $$$.

He said it was recommended by a service bulletin, but didn't say whether the bulletin was send out by Dodge. I tend to lean towards what Amsoil says, but I wanted to hear what others had experienced.

My stupid dealer accusd me of putting somthing in mine and voided my entire power train warranty. I didnt put anything in it. I even had it tested and it came back atf+4 just burned. It still didnt do any good with the rep. Then the fool said I had a light duty 3500 and where I put a flatbed on it they said I still had no warranty.

Did the stupid rep work for a long time at Chevy before he went to work for Dodge? BTW I've never heard of a light duty Dodge 3500 and don't think they ever made one, what a dumb Edit

My 02 is long out of warranty, but I run a small transmission shop and every transmission including my own gets "Smartblend" additive added to it. The stuff is great. Sticky valves, lock up shutter, they are all gone with it.

where do you get smartblend?

I just had my transmission upgraded. The tech put Dexron III in and I knew it called for 4+, so I asked . He said the only difference was some ( I do not know the name of it) in 4+ that would make it shift a little smoother. Would smartblend do the samething?
