ARRRGH< think I lost an injector....

Headed out to pick something up, had a quarter tank of fuel, get where I am going 12 miles away, low fuel light comes on..... what the heck??? gauge says its alm ost empty...... get out of truck notice dripps, look underneath, completely covered from breather tube to rear bumper........... check the oil and find it way past full. Called dealer, service manager asks if I can drive it there I said no way I am going to kill the motor by doing that..... so I wait 1 hour, 45 minutes for tow...... meanwhile try to get rental under extended waranty, they say I must be there to sign for it but they close before I can get there so I get wifey on the line to come get me, hope that she doesn't get lost, but I finaly made it home. man I am mad, less than 30 thousand miles ont he truck, bye bye injector?

well Ijust choked down dinner, was a bit hungry..... what else can I have the techs check on the remaining injectors if that is the case and I lost one? pop test? any other good tests? I would love a fresh set of 6, maybe a reason the truck has had bad mpg from day 1. how many miles on your truck tex ? EDIT: well while they have it I guess I will let them toss in the stock universal joints, although I really wanted serviceable units,

Were you able to remove the Quad box or are you not worried?

Sounds familiar to me....I was driving down the hwy when I came up to a stop light the guy next to me was honking so I rolled the window down to see what he needed...he said I was blowing oil everywhere, it was all over the poor guys windshield smeared even worst when he used the wipers. Anyway I pulled off the road looked up under the truck which was covered with diesel fuel from the front of the engine all the way back to the tailgate, checked the oil level which was way over filled .
Long story short tow truck picked up truck took to dealer later on they finally called to inform me that I blew an injector and they had to order it, I was out of my truck for about a week.

Here's the thread I put in the help section

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Parts break, sometimes prematurely. I had to rebuild the trans on my Mack @ 150,000 miles (should last for a million). Luckily it was warranty ($8,000) but I still had to fork over $400 to rent a truck for a week. I did get Eaton to split the rental bill with me.

I've had one injector go and the rest last for years. It's a crap shoot. The replacement injector might go out again before the rest do, you never know.

Yes I took off my Quad box just to try to avoid one larger than needed headache, I also pulled a code, 0191 while waiting for the tow truck.

Whats even more messey is the way chrysler had us find the leaking injectors. They would have us pull the valve cover and run the engine to determine which one was leaking an with the high fuel pressure it would make a freakin mess!

its not the injector leaking directly. its the injector tubes. better put a wrench on the rmaining five and give em a turn. what happens is the injector tube leaks at such high pressure, it "etches" the injustor causing a large leak. Ive seen this at least a hundred times since the hpcr inroduction. I even made a special wrench to torque the tubes down. Theres a tsb for it as well. any of you fellow 03-04.5 guys should check them or at least have them checked.

2500,
Great info! I would much rather address the issue now than go thru what is being posted here. I can probably cobble a wrench good enuff to do it, but would you be able to give us an idea on a torque spec? Thanks.
