anyone made their own double deep trans pan?

i was wondering if anyone has made their own double deep trans pan. i was thinking about taking 2 pans and cutting the bottom out of one and cutting the top flange off the other and welding them together. in turn it should give you 4-5 quarts extra fluid. or am i crazy for thinking about this? thanks

Doesn't sound crazy to me.
A buddy of mine extended his engine oil pan on a Jeep in a similar way. Extended the pick up the same way and no problems.

I don't see any issues with it. Nothing differant about it than buying a larger pan.

You need to drop the filter also, should be easy to make a spacer to drop it down

Why? Do the double deep pans from Mag-Hytec come with extended filter spacers? I don't think it is necessary, is it?

keep in mind that making it deeper means controlling the sloshing as well.
1- Pickup extended.
2- deep pan
3- baffles stratigically placed.
4- drain plug installed.
5- use the re-useable gaskets. they're great.

I think the extended filter spacer is to make sure that you are actually picking up fluid and not air? As long as your filling to the dip stick mark I dont see why anything would need to be moved? It would be the same thing as a stock tranny pan only now you have nearly twice as much fluid in the pan.
