Anyone know what this is?

Thus far my truck has been pretty good. However, this past weekend I noticed something that has me wondering.

I was driving down the road, cruise set at around 65 and I topped a hill and was going down it when all of a sudden the truck started hesitating like it was trying to downshift or the tc was unlocking and locking very rapidly. It did this a few times this weekend and I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing this. It only seemed to do this going down hill and it seemed to be transmission related. I just wanted to get you guys/gals opinions on what this is and how I should approach the dealer about this problem. The truck has just a hair over 9000 miles and is totally in all aspects stock, so warranty should cover any and all problems.

Thanks.

When my truck started acting similar to that I had a dirty fuel filter.

That was my other guess was a dirty fuel filter. I'll go home and change it today and see what that does. The truck was built back around october of 06 and I bought it in september of 07 so it sat for a llllooooonnnnnggggg time and I haven't changed anything other than the oil. So it just might need a new fuel filter!!!

Mine does this occasionally also, and it's not fuel filter related, at least on my truck it's not. I recall seeing a thread on this issue and it's not all that uncommon.

Well I changed the fuel filter, but I haven't driven far enough to have it do it again yet. The filter that I took out was not in that bad of shape and the fuel canister was clean. Any other ideas?

Are you sure it wasn't trying to downshift in order to maintain your cruise "set speed? Mine will downshift if it starts getting around 3-5 may be even 7 miles an hour faster than what I have it set on. Try varying your cruise speed, like do it one day ar 60 see what it dose, then try it another at 70 and see, also try not even having the cruise on.

The only other thing I could figure is when you are going down hill the cruise control is trying to slow you down somehow. I would try it again with the same scenario and when your trucks begins to acted turn the cruise off and see if that eliminates the problem.

My 06 does the exact same thing as described. I have 83K+ and this is something happening in the last 10K. As I am going down hill it feels like the TC is locking an unlocking almost like a pulse. This is with the cruise on and only in a downhill mode. I am confident that it is not the fuel filter, I believe that would show up when fuel was on demand, and that is not the case going downhill. Personally my bet is it is trans related, maybe a weak part in the VB that could be causing this....Glad to hear I am not the only one experiancing this

That makes two of us!!! For a minute there I thought I was the only one.

I feel the same as you in that it seems trans related, but with no codes or CEL how am I going to convince the dealer that it is trans related. It definately has me worried that there are bigger problems that lie ahead, and my luck they won't happen until warranty is out.

Ok so I've been driving my truck to work for the past couple of days now (I normally drive a car that gets better mileage) and it's about a 20 minute drive down the highway and it hasn't done it until this evening coming home. I went and picked up a buddy of mine just to verify that I was feeling something and not just being picky and sure enough it did it on a long downhill grade with the cruise set at around 65. I hit the cancel button on the cruise and it stopped and started to slow down as it normally would. To me and him it feels like the motor is trying to slow me down as it normally would when the cruise is set but for some reason the trans is not holding gear, as if it's trying to down gear. This has never been the case as long as I have owned the truck other than when it's in tow/haul, but it only downshifts when you are really slowing down and not when the cruise is set. I don't know, this has me really regretting getting the automatic and convincing the dealer that the trans is the problem is going to be a real pain. No CEL has ever come on. How would you guys go about this? I appreciate your feedback.

Mine has done he same on several occasions and it's a 6-speed. It seems to do it worse empty than loaded (Race car on trailer). I think it's a cruise issue and nothing to do with the tranny. Several other trucks local to me do the same thing.....

Most of the time they do that with engine mods, throws the cruise control calibration off and it cant decide how much fuel to give the truck. Mine does it a little but only going uphill.

Mine will do the same thing if I use the cruise control and go down a hill. Its your cruise trying to hold the truck close to your set speed and I've been told its normal for it to do so.

That is exactly what I have heared from my dealer and everyone that I have talked to.

Mine has done it sense I drove it off the lot.

I believe it is normal.
