Anyone have the fix?? - Shuttle shift & torque convertor lock/ unlock

I have been searching the web for information about the erratic shifting of my 48RE transmission, and TC lock/ unlock. Read a lot of old postings, but I guess I missed the final fix for these issues. Maybe someone can summarize what I need to do to correct the below issues. I have been fighting this for a while thru the extended warranty, but I am tired and do not believe the dealership can fix. 77,000 miles

The below actions happen randomly during slow/easy acceleration. Bad jerk/slam to drive train when it happens during tow of a heavy load.

1) 2-3-2 shuttle shift (24-28 mph)
2) 3rd TC "lock", 4th TC "unlocks" (40-44 mph) (TC locks at 50 mph in normal acceleration)
3) Hang shift in 2nd and 3rd gear. During easy acceleration the transmission does not want to shift, then abruptly shifts.
4) Using the Juice w/Attitude monitor you can monitor gear shift. Noticed that when the shift from 2nd to 3rd occurred, it could be from 3-5 sec. before the monitor updated showing 3rd gear. Does this indicate an electronic sensor issue? Other shifts like 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, are shown instantly.

Thanks for any information to correct or understand these issues.

I find when im driving around town, under 40 mph, and actually all the time I run in tow haul mode, keeps my trany from hunting, or try overdrive off button.

This sounds like the problem I had last year. I'm no tranny expert, just trying to learn myself after having driven an 6sp for nine years previous to this truck.

Mine ended up being a bad band. Dodge dealer fixed it.

Check your records section of the attitude and see if you showing any slip. If you set the Attitude to monitor slip, it will show N/A until the torque converter starts to lock up. It only monitors slip on the TC. Mines doing that now showing 54% as it goes into lock up. Does not slip anymore as long as I don't step on it hard.

Tranny coming out next week for TC and other stuff.

So... What fixed your problem?

The local Dodge dealership in N. Alabama has changed out some modules, but this did not corrected the list of issues with the transmission. I have put in a help ticket with Chrysler Customer Service for these issues. It has been 6 weeks since I submitted the claim and the dealership has not taken any action. The regional service manager has not contacted me. I have heard several times from the Dodge Truck Customer Service to see what action the dealership has taken to resolve my problems, but no local action. Very disappointed. The dealership has recordings on the Star Tool of when the transmission goes to TC lockup in 3rd gear, then shifts to 4th, then unlocks TC. They did put the Star Tool in my truck and told me to press a button trigger when the transmission does the shift/jerk action. The technician was then able to see the issue, but does not know how to fix. The Star service center has no recommendations of how to fix the issue, so I guess they want to drop the problem. This is a problem for Dodge Truck Engineering to fix this issue. A design Engineer should be able to troubleshoot this issue knowing what combinations of anomalies could cause this type shuttle shift and premature TC lockup in 3rd gear. Really disappointed in Dodge truck not fixing an issue that has affected a lot of truck owners.

I am having similar issues, mine randomly does a 232 shuttle but more often does TC lock unlock lock just after It shifts into second. has anyone tried the DTT shift enhancer? My tranny was just rebuilt with a triple disc and upgraded internals and the tranny shop says all the readings are normal. I believe him, just wish it wasnt so intermitent.

The dealer replaced the shift solenoids in mine under warranty. Cured it for a short while and it came back. Then I had a Trans Go shift kit installed and the problem has never returned, and that was about 20,000 miles ago.

The dealer has changed out the following with no improvement:

- Pressure solenoid (transmission)
- Temperature sensor (transmission)
- Valve body (transmission)
- Throttle position sensor
- Engine control module (ECM)

Unless any of the new parts were defective, and the dealer said the replacement parts being bad is very unlikely, nothing has changed any of the 3 problems I complained about. I still experience 1 or 2 of them daily.

I am having the 1-2 shift issue at low speed and WOT. The other shifts are fine. Will the TransGo fix this? What other parts are needed? I have had the TSB-21-009-07 done twice and I am over it. I'm at 90,000.

I am basically looking for my transmission to act normal and all of my power to get to the wheels. No mods in the future.

Had the 1-2 hunting going on, as well as flaring in 3-4 woth the 05 3500, 48RE. Wasn't bad, or so I heard, I never drive it much.

Driving into town the other day, it let loose, oil everywhere, coming from the front pump/TC area.

Fix: billet flexplate, billet triple disc torque, billet input shaft, new pump, complete steels and fibers, updated planetaries. Upgraded VB, with shift enhancer, and when the first fluid change rolls around, a double deep pan.

I am thinking that should cure most of the problems. We are building an auto that should be firm shifting, without breaking your neck, as the truck hauls horses quite often. It will be built for towing, and I am probably going to add an auxiliary cooler as well.

Now, this thing exhibited no signs, other than the light throttle 1-2 hunt, and the occasional 3-4 flares, that there were any serious problems. There was no fanfare when it let go, it just decided to puke. Two days before it let loose, the oil was nice, bright red, clean, everything you could want, now its dark brown, full of crap, and done for.

From my neanderthal point of view, there is no place in the world for an automatic transmission behind a diesel engine. But, that is just my view. this just reinforces that belief.

3-4 flare? As in it holds the gear too long up in the redline RPM range?

this truck never runs to redline, or even close. Its a symptom of literally flaring, like a pressure spike more than anything, rather than a firm shift, it tends to almost hang between gears, then take. Really hard to describe. I would tend to equate it with TC slippage before lockup.
