Just put two in the rear drive shaft of my 92 and put two in the drive shaft on Rattlinram's truck with the aluminum drive shaft. NAPA supplied both of them but had to order them.

You need a couple of these:

They are $23/each and a lot of stores around me had them in stock. This is a 1480 Ujoint, the others listed here are 1350's and I don't know if the 03+ truck use them but my 2003 has 1480's.

The ones in my 99 2WD

Just for future reference of anyone doing a search on U-joints,,,, These are the ones that I had put in my 1999 2 wheel-drive Quad Cab Shortbed with a one piece aluminum driveshaft from the auto trans to the rear dif.

Quick note

The NAPA #210-0160 is a newer number for the NAPA #330 part which was recently changed according to the NAPA guy. You can see where they relabeled this box.

Thumbs up To update my situation....

yep. Murphy's law that something would go wrong as I waxed and really cleaned the rig on sunday a week ago.

Long story...may need a break....

Rear u-joint or something was going squeak squeak squeak a week ago monday (as I posted here) so I called in for an appointment to get it fixed. No room until monday this week they said last week. So be it..schedule me in. Then I went to Reading on Wednesday and on my way back north I was heading down the little grade to pass my dodge dealer and when I got back on the throttle the truck started shaking violently. So right in the lot I went and I called by GF to come pick me up.

Then they changed the oil thrusday and couldnt replicate the problem. So I quick went down before the rain and I went up the hill to the back lot (squeak squeak squeak) then turned around and went tdown the hill ***shake shake shake shake***. I just looked at the technician in disgust. So be it.

On friday I get a call..."yep, we think it is the rear u-joint and the rear U-joint is on national backorder. IT could be anywhere from 1 to 10 weeks until the part comes in so we feel it is ok for you to drive the truck around until the part comes in". I am thinking...yeah **yawn**.

So I get on the phone and there are no u-joints beyond 02 in the aftermarket. Go call a different DC dealer looking to see if an 02 joint fits an 03 and he said no...but wait a miniute. There are these three dealers in our area are all showing the u-joint as in stock. So I call the closest one to work to see if they have the part. Yes they do and it is 180 for just the stinking U-joint.

I call the DC dealer working on my truck back:
R: "Ah, yes. How long was the backorder on that part again?"

DC: one to ten weeks he replied.

R: "yeah, but I really cant be driving my moms car around for the next 1 to ten weeks waiting for the part and I definitely cant afford to get a rental car for that amount of time".

DC: Well we said you can take it and drive it.

R: "YEAH, at the cost of what. The other u-joint failing, the rear pinion bearing going bad. the driveshaft letting loose and denting my truck or worse falling off and causing injury or accident to another person. What would you say if I have found the part?"

DC: WEll the parts guy did a local search and couldnt find any.

R: "Well, it took me 30 minutes to find three of them within a 45 minute drive of your garage and I dont have your fancy parts network. If you can arrange payment with "such and such" Dodge in the next town I will run up there and pick up the part and if you cant I will go up there and buy the part and bring it to you. I cant drive the truck vibrating like this. All I'll do is take it home and it will sit until you get your backordered part.

DC: well, we'll have to talk about this internally and get back to you.

Calls me back in 10 minutes:

DC: We'll have the part for you on monday.

R: "thank you, no hard feelings. I just want my truck fixed so I can rely on it and drive it as I expect to do for 38,000 dollars I paid for it at your dealership".

And this dealer is 5-star service certified for the past 6 or 7 years.

Andy,

is it the same u-joint front and rear?

And which part number should it be...1480 or 1350?

Are the part numbers the same for one piece and two piece driveshafts? (they are different in the DC parts network)

Thanks a bunch for posting.

Ron.

The part number is 351, which is a series 1480 joint. My truck is an 03 SWB 4x4 with a single piece rear driveshaft and that's what I used for both ends of the rear shaft.

When I was under there pulling the rear driveshaft I spied the front and it looks like it takes a 1310 type joint on the axle yoke end. The other end of the driveshaft looks to have a double-cardan type CV joint. I didn't dig into it to see what the guts were but I suspect they are standard parts just like the u-joints. I suspect any competent driveshaft shop should be able to rebuild the CV end.

I don't know what the 2-piece rear shafts take for a u-joint but I suspect it would be the same. If not, it's most likely a 1350 series joint, which all auto parts stores carry, even Autozone.

If you get under there and measure the diameter of the hole in the yoke somewhat accurately we can figure out which joints it takes.

I have a 2003 CTD, I had U-joint problems and found out that the drive shaft was bent. From what the dealer told me this is a problem. They ordered me a new drive shaft and u-joints. I was surprised when they came in pre-connected to the drive shaft with new plates to bolt the unit to the trans and rear end. I found out the shaft was bent after hauling a large load. I thought it was the u-joints but after they were replaced it started shaking again. They dealer checked it out and said it was the drive shaft. That was also one of the reasons my truck vibrated at 60mph which is a commom problem.

I would have them check the drive shaft. The u-joints should not go up in a year
