Anyone Doing 2-Stroke Oil in 3rd Gen

I have from many that an ash-less 2-stroke is a good thing for the engine. However, I have not heard whether this good for the 3rd Gen. Any advice..

I am thinking about using Pennzoil Premium Outdoor/Multipurpose 2-cycle TCW-3.

Thanx.

I'm using it. About 16oz per tank full.

I've been using it for over 30,000 miles now and she's running great!! I usually dump in 1qt per fill up or roughly 1oz per 1gal of fuel!!! That comes out to about 128:1 ratio. Most of the so called "diesel additives" are mostly solvents ie. mineral spirits, naptha etc. to raise the cetane level. Not the kind of stuff I want to be dumping in my tank to keep things lubed. Also, 2 stroke oil has a "LOWER POUR POINT THAN ULSD"!!!!! So using it in the middle of the winter when it's below zero like now will not cause fuel gelling. It may actually help!!!

Okay this is something new to me. What are the benefits of putting 2-stroke oil in with the fuel?

Adding lubrication to the fuel, especially with #1 and ULSD will help lubricate the lift pump, IP and injectors.
Diesel fuel today has less lubricating properties now than in the past due to the process of removing sulphur from the fuel.

Okay that makes sense to me. I guess this is something that I'll start doing since I don't fill up all that often. Is there a specific quality or something to look for in a 2-cycle oil?

They dont recomend it for the new motors, a fuel addative like Howes, Power servise, etc, is supposed to be better, read this some where in Diesel Power magazine, just my .25c worth

Also, to clarify for others, its ashless two cycle, meant to be burned...

I havent tried it yet, but I may give it a go sometime and see how it runs, ill probably still use power service too(using 8oz per tank right now)

See my prior post about what is mostly in those "other" products!! If you still wish to use them fine. Those substances do raise the cetane level, but are essentially solvents. Not good for lubrication!! You could probably save $$ by just buying straight naptha or mineral spirits and dump it in your tank!! Cummins didn't reccommend a lot of things until they started making/selling those things on their own!!!

I use the Super Tech TCW 3 Ashless Outboard oil from Wall Mart, it's like $8.84 a gallon. BTW, it works about as good as the Pennzoil brand and its about $3.00 a gallon cheaper.
