Any sticker after comp. update?
I've never seen so much attention paid to a meaningless sticker. The only way your paranoia of getting screwed can be relieved is to hook up the scan tool and get your current p/n. You then take it to the mds and enter it in to see if there are any updates. I don't put them on the rad support. I wouldn't want anyone sticking something on mine so I don't do it to others. If I have any handy I'll put them on the ecm. Sometimes they even stick. Our parts department has run out of them before too....I'm sorry Mr. X, I cannot flash your truck because I don't have a sticker and it would be illegal to update your truck without one....yeah right!! Maybe I'll just start digging under your seats and sticking it to the back of your EZ Edge boxes....that would be a hoot!
You got a good point J Body. But how much more vauge could the service department be saying its been updated? However, totaly understand where you are coming from with your statement. Whats the mds?
To determine if a controller is updated you have to have the current number. The DRB scan tool is used to get this info. The tech then enters this number into the MDS which is the main computer in the shop. This is where we check tsb's and almost anything under the sun relating to the vehicle. When the number is entered it will either say "up to date" or it will give a list of TSB's and their related updates and what they pertain to. To flash a diesel, the tech then can download the flash into the scan tool and when it's done loading you can take the scan tool to the truck and update it. On most of the Cummins flashes I've been doing I don't even pull the truck into the shop. I guess maybe I've been in small dealers for all of my career and I probably have a "one on one" repore with nearly 90% of my customers so if one were to inquire on what an update is I would be able to explain it. You also have to understand that most people here are a bit unique as the CTD owners are almost "harley like" in their following and have a better understanding on what info is out there on these trucks. Most ordinary customers would be content with knowing there computer has been "updated" to the latest greatest changes chrysler has to offer and that sounds like thats how they dealt with you, however you obviously wanted more info and that is where a short tour of the MDS would have been nice to show exactly what was done to your ECM.
