No, don't argue with him...I guess he's right. I mean Ford's and some 6.7L Dodge's are only getting 10-11mpg EMPTY, so I guess I got a good one...

I can only bet when the weight goes up to close to 30K that 10mpg goes to about 7mpg...that will really make me wish I had my 12v hooked up...

I loooovvvveee the EPA!

Both of my truck get about the same fuel mileage towing the same trailer. I think that the RFE68 works pretty decent towing a trailer. I was suprised how well 350hp and 650ft*lbs tows a trailer. My 02 really needs that little lower first gear when towing a heavy trailer. If you guys are towing really heavy, I don't know how you can do that legally. My RV is over my rating for my 3/4 ton and just barely under for the 2010-3500. Ya we can tow heavy, but its stopping that really important part. The braking part towing, my 2010 truck work better than the older truck and worked really nice with the e-brake and better brakes.

There are no "mountains" here...just long slight grades. I don't tow that heavy all the time, but when the truck and trailer weigh 15K empty, it doesn't take much to get over 26K GCVW. One tractor will do it.

Also, the reason we have to use the truck and GN trailers is that a lot of places that we have to deliver to, you CAN'T get a semi and 53' trailer within 5 miles of...so we are kinda in a mess of be legal and inconvenience our new customers, or just be illegal and try to be as safe as possible.

Last I heard class 8 was getting anywhere from 4.5- 9 MPG, loaded to 80,000 lbs. The guys getting up to 9 were driving for Snyder, and Swift. Their trucks are so slow they are a road hazard.

When I used to haul cars I averaged 4.5-5.5 MPG with either a 444XT Cummins, or a 550 Cat, cruising at 70-80 MPH. That's a 48 state average, and staying loaded to about 75-80K LBS most of the time.

Of course that was 11 years ago, and some of the guys pulling vans and flatbeds have a little bit better aerodynamics with some design changes. So the upper end of the mileage should be a couple of MPG better by now.

The rig I drive now burns about 10-15 thousand gallons a month. I'm glad someone else pays the bill when I take on fuel. LOL....

I just thought I'd chime in on this thread a bit. As I'm considering buying a new or like new Ram. But its a difficult thing to do after being in the same truck for 9 years. Its actually kind of depressing to give up the old truck, as it has been so reliable.

Does anyone know what the true max tow limit is on the 2010 3500? I have a 2010 6 sp/ manual CC DRW w/4wd (3.73) and have heard alot of mixed comments on what people claim to be able to pull with this truck. dose anyone know the true limitations? is 14100lbs all it can safely tow? and why can the automatic version tow more?
Thanks for any help with this.
