Another Vibe Question!!
My truck has a vibration that can be felt nearly at all times.....Especially around 50mph!!! I looked under the truck to check the u-joints, which looked and felt fine to me.....One thing i did notice was that the front axle was leaking where the drive line entered into the axle....there was pretty good bit of oil on it....My truck has vibrated before but only when i pull heavy....Would the axle leak from a bad u-joint???? Any help would be greatly appreciated......Thanks

how many miles on the truck?
could it be the tires?
the front axle leak seems to me, by your discription, to be the pinion seal. this wouldn't cause a vibration. i don't think a bad u-joint would cause a pinion seal to leak, it would have to be seriously bad in order to create a leak.
but a simple test would be to take the front driveshaft out and go for a ride, if it doesn't vibrate it's a u-joint. while it's out u can fix the pinion seal too.

Have the tires balanced before you worry about anything else. It's cheap and if you haven't done it in 10K miles you need it done. Watch them do each tire and make sure they check them after adding weights. Tires busters are.... tire busters.
I had an 03 dually in my shop a couple of months ago. It had already been to the dealer to have the U-joints checked under warranty for a vibration problem. The dealer told my customer that The u-joints were fine but that he needed rear brakes pads and rotors.
I checked the u-joints visually and for play, they all looked perfect. I pulled the rear driveshaft and the rear u-joint was frozen so that you could not move it by hand. It looked perfectly fine. The problem was gone after replacement and ther rear brakes were fine too

I have 47,000 on the truck and the tires have a little life left in them.....but i guess that might be the problem....I still think that there is a problem in the drive line...it really vibrates in first and second when loaded.....either that or the carrier bearing....

I have this same problem.
Truck ws fine. 60K on orig. BFG's. I have new BFG's installed. Had this problem with new tires. Had the re-balance tires. Some problem.
Went to another tire store and they said the tires where out of balance. They balanced and did a front end alignment. Alignment was good expect to a little to much toe out, which they corrected.
Vibe was greatly reduced, but still there.
When the tire shop put the new tires on they found that I was missing one lug nut on the pass. rear tire and the end of the stud is messed up, but it should be ok. I had the brakes done by a local dealer about a month before, but I had not vibe problem before the new tires. I do not know if the dealer forgot the lug or the tire shop messed up the stud and won't fuss up. I know the guy at the dealer an he does good work.
So I need to get a new lug nut. I did not think it was causing the vibe since, based on the tire shop, it had been missing for a month.
So tires balanced three times, front end aligned and still a vibe at all speeds. If the new lug nut don't fix it i am going to get the tire shop to replace the tires.

I would go here and get your tires balanced once and for all for LIFE or at least until you need a new tire.

Haven't had a vibe problem at all and have 13k on my 315 bfg's. I rotate every 6k and tires looks good and no cupping.
I am using 8 oz in each time. No more ugly weights and alloy rims will not get damaged due to weights.

Tire shop put the truck up on the lift, ran the truck up on the lift and found that the rear drive shaft was woobling more then a 1/8"!
The rear u-joint was shot at 62K. Dealer replaced it under warranty ($100 deductable).
Truck is much better. The vib I had at 68 mph is gone!

Hey DavidNY03, why the $100 deductable? Do you have the 7/70 warranty? The last time I had anything done it was a $200 because It was after the 3/36. I am chasing a vibration also. Just recently started, but I think it is in the front end.
I posted a couple days ago about a weird vibration that just started. It is at low RPM's around 55 MPH. It is very slight, but I can feel it in the steering wheel and the change in the ash tray will make alittle noise. I have 53,000 miles on the truck and only about 6,000 on the new tires. i think it might need a trip to the dealer.
Dealer has order a new rear drive shaft. Should be able to get it changed out in about a week.
The dealer said it throw a weight. I check and did not see where a weight was gone. At least the dealer acknowledged the vib problem. After the rear u joint was replaced the 68 mph vib was gone.
I could live with the small vib, but I will have them replace the drive shaft.
They told me the $100 deductable was part of the 7/70 rive train warranty.
I see the 7/70 is no longer on the '06's.

No, the front axle would not leak if the u joint was bad.
Take it to the dealer. It should be covered under the 7/70.
You could take the front drive shaft out and see if you still have the vib.

I take my truck in on Friday. I talked to the dealer and they said it sounded like the u-joint might be bad. It has gone from a slight vibe to a constant vibe from 40 mph -65 mph. I hope this will fix it.
