How bad is the 70 mph vibe?

I don't have any idea if this is even close to what the rest of you are experiencing. Mine is only at dead-even 60 mph. It's so slight I thought I was trying to imagine it at first, but it is consistant every time I hit 60. The engine is noticably louder and I can feel it slightly in the pedal and it goes away as soon as I go above or below 60. It's almost the same sound as when the fan kicks on and I thought it was that at first but I can set the cruise at 60 and it never goes away. Any guesses. Only 2500 miles on truck.

That ain't it. Starts at 68 mph, peaks at 75 mph, then begins to taper off. Feels like a pack of Harleys is tailgating you. In fact, that's exactly what I thought it was the first time I experienced it.

It will put your hand to sleep. Mine starts 72 and doesn't go away. If you have to look for it, I would say you aint got it. JMO

My 72 MPH vibration was fixed when they replaced my leaking rear driveshaft yoke and balancer assembly. It was replaced because it was leaking.

A new rear driveshaft took care of most of it for me, a switch to 315's got rid of the rest.

mine went away with the power steering hose TSB. They replaced the hose and the vibration is gone. Works for me!

Is there a TSB number on the Driveshaft vibration fix yet?

I saw a post where someone had some shims installed and a new shaft. My dealership has not head or seen anything on this subject and mine has it at 71-77mph but not bad. I have to drive it at 69 or above 80mph.

Ours isn't too bad under 70, but, it is increasing.

Probably a good thing, the dealer might be able to fix it next time. To me, the vibration seems to come from the front drive train more. Anything over 75 mph and the dash, steering wheel and front end vibrate a lot. Its very noticible when towing at 70, it starts just over 60 mph. At 55 to 60, its totally smooth.

I've had the steering hose TSB and the tires balanced, plus the dealer found a "loose" front shock. Its not too bad at the speeds normally traveled, I feel it more with passing. One thing that I'm concerned about, is the "turbo barking" when shifting to OD. Loaded, unloaded, light throttle, full throttle with 12K in tow, it will give one heck of a bark sometimes. The trans makes some loud shifting noise too, I can't tell which is making the most noise.

Going up a steep grade in second while towing heavy, the thing made the loudest bark going to third at 40 mph. Loud.

It got my fathers attention, he had never heard it get that loud before. I figure its mainly turbo bark.

70 mph vibration

I have a vibration that starts at 70 mph, a few things I have tried
Running in second gear (automatic) at the same RPM – no vib.
Running at 70+ and shifting into neutral – no vib. It goes away.
It only happens when running in gear under normal operation at 70 MPH and up. I’m thinking it is possibly an exhaust issue. Any new ideals???

I saw a post where DC acknowledged the problem of the vibration and possible causes but, I wondered if they had a fix yet. I am ready to take the shaft off after this Hurricane hits us.

OK, I just bought my first diesel last week, an '03 2500 4x4 with 27k miles. Took it out on the road this evening after reading these posts and sure enough, at about 70, this vibration started. Whoever said it sounded like a herd of Harleys about to swarm down on you hit it on the head.

So what exactly is this and should I seek out the dealership while still under warranty?

thanks,
Rick

If you don't have the new power steering hose (the one with the weight on it) I would definitely get that done per the TSB... it's easy and free under warranty and has cured the problem for many, including me. It doesn't fix it for everyone but certainly worth a try. Does the problem get worse when the A/C compressor is on? If so then that's the vibration that the new hose really seems to help with. If there is no difference with the A/C compressor on then the cause might be one of the other issues such as a driveshaft, etc.

I am not sure how everyone is getting the power steering hose TSB fix done. I printed it out (from Genos) and my dealer said they will only do the work if the TSB comes from the Star line at Dodge.

Yours sounds more like tire balancing. Definitely you don't have the 2krpm 70mph vibration that most of us have had on the new model,...primarily. It's under warranty,..take it back to the dealer for rebalancing the tires. Who knows,..you may have a bad tire.

Any problems I have had with vibration was cured by tire balancing. I've not had any problems between 70- 80.
