Coming back down, if not in T/H and descending a hill, I push the T/H button, will it down shift to allow an exhaust break to function or does the EB have a program for that. Now with OD lockout, it will downshift to 3rd and then lockup if decellerating. I don't have an EB but am considering one even tho my 48RE has the wrong thrust washer.
Sorry for all the questions but I want to get it right the first time and not regret having it reprogrammed.

I'm sure you got it correct. I wasnt sure they could reprogram your 04.5. But if they do it'll be like the 05. I know a lot of people dont like the 05 because of no 0\d lockout ,and Dodge finely came out with a reflash that reprogramed the 05 back to 04.5. That took away the towhaul but allowed o\d lockout.
You are correct in theary of the fungtion after the reflash. In towhaul with load when you slow down you'll get a downshift around 45 to 3r and immediate lockup. With no throttle stay under 50 and it'll stay in 3rd lockup. Put the throttle to it and she'll take you to redline in 3rd and then upshift to 4th lockup, or upshift any time you let off throttle over 50. Plus on steep pulls you can let your speed down appropreatly , handshift to 2nd and get 2nd gear lockup and pull 11-12000 lb trailer up a 10% grade at 2000 rpm at half throttle all day. Remember the less throttle used the less exhaust heat you make. No lockup in 1st, unless you install a separate switch.
Hope this helps.

This is great info. Thanks. Why did/do 05 owners not like OD in T/H? I was of the understanding that T/H did several things like change shift points and up line pressure for more aggresive lockup/shifting.

I would figure most likely because you can't keep the transmission from shifting into 4th. Pulling in 3rd, rather than 2nd, allows you to go faster on the highway as well.

Too bad this cannot be a Smarty option that we could choose depending on our needs? I have a 4.5 and would love to have both options. I think being able to have tranny lock up in 3rd and 4th would be great for the daily driving empty and the OD lockout would be great when pulling loads.

Can't we somehow have both on a 4.5?

Do what I do...run it up to 50 to lock it up and slow back down. Coasting, mine unlocks at 45, on the throttle it'll get all the way down to 42, and with the cruise on, I can get all the way down to 31-32 before it unlocks in 4th. Even cruising at 35-40, I'll run up to 50, hit cruise and slow it back down. With it locked up down there, the mileage goes up quite a bit...I hate the stock torque converter.

If your pulling a load, not good to have your engine turning below 1500. because of oil pressure. You gadge is not reading actual pressure. Its more like a oil light. eather on or off.
Also the auto trans isnt turning fast enough to maintain desired line pressure etc.

I'd say that also below 1500 your out of the engine's peak torque and close to lugging it, making it use more fuel than it needs to and creating higher EGT's.

Mine is locking at about 57, is there something to adjust on the valvebody to make it lock sooner.
