another ball joint question
ok need new ball joints and tie rod ends. can a shade tree mechnic do ball joints? and what tools are needed or speciality tools are needed. also good ball joints? limited funds thats why i need to know if i can do this my self.
Yes! you can replace them. I recommend Carli or Dynatrac. Here is a link that shows you how to.

If you purchase the Carli or Dynatracs you'll have no choice but to do the job yourself as you'll have spent all your money on those parts alone. So far my XRF's are holding up just fine....a little over $200 for all 4. All you need is a basic set of wrenches (std. and metric), some sockets, Allen wrenches, possibly a puller for the unit bearing (put it back on with some anti-sieze), and a ball-joint press.
The tie rods and ends are pretty self explanitory if you look at them.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know where to get replacement boots for the lower XRF ball joints. Mine cracked. As for as the ease of being able to do them. I purchased a dodge press and couldn't be happier in being able to do myself. Well worth the cost of the tool for the freedom.
