Another ball joint question

I was looking at Rock Auto.com to see how much it was gonna cost for all four ball joints from spicer. How come all of the uppers are adjustable? I didnt think adjustable ones were necessary unless you had problems getting your truck to align properly. I havent had issues before and dont want issues caused by going with adjustables.

Spicer upper ball joint part # 5001117 (no adjustment)
Spicer lower ball joint part # 5051311
Rockauto is not showing the upper bj anymore. Bought mine nov 07 from them. You may want to give them a call and see if they can get them. Don't know who else would carry them, maybe NAPA?

edit - apparently the upper bj does not exist any more - did a search on the internet and dana/spicer website found nothing.

Yep you use them if need to get it to spec after a crash and a maybe you bend the tube jumping or something like that.
Stick with the plain ball joints.

I have had my Carli ball joints on for quite some time. They are worth every penny if they can hold up to my use
If you have to pay some one to install them you have saved the difference in price very quick when they out last the oem or any other joint out there.
Remember its just like a quality tool.If it works good you forget the cost very quickly,if it does not you will remember it every time you need to use it. I like to use my truck.......................................alot

They may be good and probably worth it if you are paying someone else to install them. For a DIY type person paying $600 for just the upper vs $150 for most any other brand out there doesnt make sense. I just changed mine and went back with stockers because I could get all four for $150 and after getting them changed out I realized that the lowers were the only ones worn out. In this aam axle the lowers carry all the weight, the uppers only stabilize the vertical movement and are not subject to the wear the bottom ones get. I'm sure they wear out eventually but with almost 60k miles on mine the lowers had 3/8" of wear with the uppers had almost no movement. Also be aware that the upper ball joint is not a ball at all but a pin and sleeve setup designed to move up and down as the lower ball joint wears. Maybe Carli has modified the design so that their upper is an actual ball joint and helps carry some of the weight, I dont know.

I just installed that carli uppers as well and am very impressed. Matched them with the moog greasable lowers and supplied the labor so i came out ahead of what it would cost to pay to have them done. Carli uppers are still a floating pin style, just massive in comparison. With bigger tires my uppers were worse than the lowers. I think keeping the uppers tight should help the lowers from wearing so fast...

To original ?, i wouldn't get the offset ones unless you have an alignment problem..
