alternator bracket

I am new here and have just purchased a 2003 duelly 6 spd 2wd with 70,000 on it. I have was looking at the engine and seen I have a broken alternator braket. The belt is still tight. I just picked it up in Ark and drove to Tucson, Az. with no problem.
Has there been a problem with the top braket braking in half or did someone put the wrong belt on?

Dodge issued a TSB on the bracket. Do a search on the forums and you'll find the TSB and a few threads on the subject.

onearizoldman,
Did you happen to get a maintenance record with the truck? It would be interesting to see what, if any problems the first owner had in 70,000 miles. Thanks.

If you are good with your local dealer they can do a check (Ford was called an OASIS) and it will tell you what warranty work was done to the truck, whether it is a write off, etc. It probably will not log retail work as this is usually done on in-house computers. Check your hours vs mileage and you will know if it idled all its life or was a highway runner. Push the odometer reset button for 6 seconds or more with the key in the on position and the engine off. It will tell you the hours on the truck.

Went to Bill Breck Dodge here in Tucson and talked to the service people and they said there is nothing they can do, except charge me for the backet and labor. The bracket was $100.00 with tax. Asked about a record for the truck and they said they couldn't do that either. I have taken my 2500 4x4 to them since 97.

That is not acceptable onearizoldman. That bracket is replaceable on a TSB listed above. I know because mine was changed for hairline cracks. No cost to me.

Unless the warranty is up for some reason on that truck. A TSB is not a recall. If the truck has no warranty then it is customer pay. But I think they should have given you any records DC had on the truck.

Mine has had a very small crack for quite a while. Just recently it developed more cracks and the local dealer ordered the parts listed on the TSB. I gave them a copy of the TSB and the service manager said he would take care of it. My selling dealer was going to replace it last Spring. They are located 165 miles away and I didn't want to miss work to have it replaced. I decided to wait until it cracked worse and take it in when other things need repaired. It will be going in for a new radiator which was broken when the injection pump was replaced. They broke the lower shroud mount off of the radiator side tank.

Just go to the link on the above post by RamDan03. Print it and give a copy to the service manager. I don't see how they could possibly try to make you pay for it.

I bought my 03 h/0 with 50k on it and the alt bracket was cracked..I took it to two dealers and told them it was a tsb and they would not change it for free... I had to buy the bracket and change it... They said the bracket was not part of the engine warranty...

YEP same thing I got. Should be getting braket tomorrow, and I will install. At least this way I know it was done RIGHT. But it did cost me $100.00. Thanks for all the info tho. It really does help to fight back, tho not always winning.

100 bucks for a chunk of steel DC must be wanting to make some money back from the ones they had to replace. Thievery without a mask. I think I'd weld the old one first before spending that.

Is the warranty not transferrable? You should have a 3-year, 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. It's an '03 truck so it should be covered.....assuming the warranty is transferrable from the original owner to subsequent owner(s).

What's the deal?
