All Six Injectors Bad..... Really???? HELP!

Ok, so my truck failed about 2 weeks ago or so and the failure mode was obviously injector failure (white smoke, knocking, rough idle prior etc) so I pulled the injectors to have them tested. I took them to what I believe to be a reputable place here in Dallas (M&D Distribution) to have them tested and the call I had today on the damage was not good.

4 injectors stuck closed and 2 injectors stuck open. I could not believe what they were saying and I still don't. Can this really happen??? And if it can, do I also need to check the injector pump for signs of premature failure? I have the Airdog with 2 micron and waterseperator and it has been on there for about 2 years now so I find it hard to believe that that much trash or water could get into the injectors.

The truck was running perfect on a Sunday, then rough idle Monday, cleaner ran through it on Tuesday and it cleared up a bit. Back to rough idle Wednesday morning but ran good once above 1000 rpm then complete failure Wednesday evening.

Any help would be appreciated as the quote for the injectors and labor to test the old ones is coming in at $2740!! Is there somewhere else I should take a look at for testing or??

I hope the $2740 isn't just for the bench testing you can buy a whole new set of 6 for that!!! Don M at F1 is probably the best place to send em he can test, repair, and flow balance them and everyone on here is always happy with his product. And he should be able to tell you why they failed. If you had really bad fuel contamination it would be possible for all 6 to get chundered at once. sorry but your air dog set up is NOT a true 2mic and the water separator is worse than OEM and does not meet spec so don't rule out bad fuel. I've also heard of pieces from the plunger in CP3 coming apart and ending up in injectors. depending on whats wrong w/ injectors you might want to look at other reasons the truck failed (cp3 problems, test fuel...) ohh and industrial injection, source automotive, and others have new injectors for ~$350 after core exchange so don't spend more than that to get em fixed/tested.

Thanks Bradler, yes the $2740 is not just bench test price. Thats the testing price ($25 each) plus the cost of six new injectors with tax. Maybe I need to call Don M and see what it would take to get them to him for proper testing and see if this is really true. How do I get in touch with Don? I looked on F1's website and it only list distributors as contacts.

I did not know that about teh Airdog setup I thought is labeled as a better than stock replacement for the stock lift pump??

I agree witht eh assumption that I need to test the CP3 or have it looked at, any suggestions on that one?? Places for test, things to look for in and around under the hood??

Don does all his business through the distributors, you'll have to go through one of them.

The Airdog is a better pump, but the filters that come with it are junk from general consensus that I've seen on here.

That's about all I can help ya with. My truck's at the dealer getting injectors tested right now. It's still under warranty though thankfully.

Not sure on the injectors, but Don M will give you the best answer on them. but it may take a while.

As for the AD filters, the final filter is 5um absolute 2um at 94%. The original f/w sep is 50% free and 0% emulsified at 20GPH. The current one is 75% emulsified and 95% free at 90GPH and is a Luberfiner LFF9594.

Industrial Injection rebuilds them as well and doesn't have the wait Don M has. That place is a little steep on their price but no far off unless that is new bodies then that is a good price. Having them pulled, shipped, rebuild with 60 hp tips only set me back 2100 with an industrial injection dealer. MY bodies were still good. If yours aren't ensure they getting you the new stainless steel bodies with your new ones. If you got anything over 120k you got luckly unless you run a true water separtor element and 2 micron filter.

That's really not too bad at all.

I have had one dealing with M&D. $2700 seems high... I got all six from them for $1750.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, I think I am going to at least check the line from the CP3 to the rail and then blow the rail out and look for debris. I have already done this on the rail-injector tube lines as well as the injector tubes and found nothing. In the meantime I will probably give Don M and the distributors (sounds like a good band name) a call and see how long it would be to get them tested and go from there.
