Re:Is this all Cummins has?

It depends on the repair that needs to be made and how far into the Allison we must go. For smaller repairs we are authorized to do the work, but it usually must be authorized by the GM techline, and we would have to call them to get permission to do the work and get the parts. If failure is large in nature GM will simply tell us to pull it and send it to them and they will send us another one to install. But as for the smaller problems we must call the techline to get advice and guidance on how to address the situation. Fortunetely, we have not yet had to use this process because we have had no failures what so ever.

Re:Is this all Cummins has?

i have owned three cummins, 2 5 speeds and one auto. the auto is still the drag race king, just stays on the boost. the truck with 4.10s sucked going down the highway, so bad i swore i would never get another one with 4.10s. the auto wouldn't pull for stock, i turned the pump up a bit on both first gens, and i can tow 10k no problem with 3.54s[first gen 160]. and do it at 70+. the 4.10 truck [1st gen5 speed] hit the limiter at 79mph. and didn't tow any better, just made more noise. i have a 2nd gen 5 speed truck now with 3.54s and it tows anything i can hook behind it. i think you have problems with your new truck, i would put it on a chassie dyno and see what the #s are. i tow 10k plus all the time and don't have any problems for the first gen auto or the 2nd gen stick.

If your mileage is also bad, I would suspect some power is not making it to the ground. It could be that the transmission or axles (Dodge wastes a lot of horsepower turning the front axle on 4x4's) or even bearings and brakes are robbing you of much needed horsepower.

The front axle shaftst spinning has hardly anything to do with parasidic power loss. They just spin freely in the bearings and aren't even spinning parts on the rest of the driveline. In my opinion it is better because when you shift to 4wheel drive the parts are well lubbed, thus helping to prevent brakage.

Sarry for just jumping in

I have driven the Dmax and the new cummins. I like them both and would rather have a dmax than a pjoke.
I have only heard of one person haveing problems with the Dmax and that was my friends grandpa. he pulled a camper and with 50k on the engine it threw a rod or something like that. I just remember the oil pan full of coolant.
DM01

Re:Is this all Cummins has?

Did you ever get it to a Cummins service center to get it checked out?

Re:Is this all Cummins has?

Well if they can't fix it in so many tries and say their is a problem they owe you a new truck that is the law. "bombing" it isn't going to fix whatever problem you have. Speak to your Dodge reginal rep about it. Things do go bad and you will have vehicles that have problems from time to time, it doesn't mater what make it is. Unfortunately it isn't a perfect world and it sound like you got one of those vehicles. I read that they were having some throtle sensor problems, maybe yours isn't reading the increase in throttle after a certain point.

Re:Is this all Cummins has?

Sorry guys, but I'm just not biting. Some people in this thread may be legitimately disappointed in their new trucks towing power and will most likely be happier with the 4.10 like Luke S has said but . . . I still think certain other people with the outrageous stories are trolling. I don't buy it that Cummins (not Dodge?) went to the expense of replacing a "turbo, pump, ..." without any inprovement or agreement that there is a continuing problem. I don't buy that an HO with a 3.73 can only tow 5000 at 43 to 48 mph over flat country. Story just doesn't wash. JMHO

The Boss Hog
