Air Dog Pump problems. HELP!!!
Air Dog Pump problems. HELP!!!
Ok I think I have the first Air Dog system, it came on the truck when I bought it. The guy tells me after I fly in to pick up the truck that it still has the 1/2 tank fuel cut out problem, Thanks. Anyways, this morning I get a call that I won this bid for plowing an industrial park and its snowing. I'm like wow I'm so lucky, i go out start my truck right up (10degrees out) put on my plow and 5 minutes later the truck stalls, hmmm thats weird. Drive down the street about a 1/4 mile and stalls, Rotrow! Starts up and I get an 1/8 mile and you know the story. The truch has been stuttering a few times when I was plowing and my fuel filter has been due. It takes a few times to get started but I make it home and change the filter and fill the filter up and it starts up. Runs great for about a mile and I park it talk to the guy Im suppose to plow for and its idling fine, i get in go 20ft and blahhh. So yesterday it was -3 like all night and the truck started just fine in the morning and ran all day with no problems. Everytime I turn the ignition I hear the pump running, before today also. Its sometimes a little noisy, i thought this was normal??? So now the truck won't start with a few tries. I remove the filter look inside and its 4/5ths full. I forgot to say there was no gelling in the old filter. I also opened the water seperator and some fuel comes out. I put the new filter on and turn the key but i dont hear the pump running??? I start it and it starts up and I make it home 1 mile away. I sit idling in front of my house and 30 seconds blahhh, dead. So I still need to plow 3 parking lots and theres a chance of a friggin Blizzard tomorrow!!! AHHHHHHHHH, HELP!!! I'm ready to next day air a new pump, but do I need to? I called Air dog and their so back logged with other people calling about problems that they can't talk to me and will have to call me back. Oh man, I'm so freaking out!!!
I forgot to mention the fuel tank is 3/4 full and I used the diesel anti gelling additive this morning after it stalled, and the engines temperature reached at least 155f.

fill it to the rim. the problem with the draw straws is just like poking a hole in your buddys straw drinking a soda. its fine at the fuller levels but the lower it goes the harder the pump has to suck to get fuel.
Now hardly any sound from pump
So I had a little bit of fuel in my aux tank and put it in, the gauge now ready 7/8 full. I turned the key and I could hear the pump making its typical medium pump noise. I drove a 1/4 mile and of course stalls, this time the truck won't start unless i sit for 5 minutes and it will only go about 100ft at a time. The pump is practically silent. Just a little bit of noise. I'm ready to order a new pump but what about that warranty?
Does it sound like its dead?
yeah i know. Thats bites! Thanks alot AIRDOG. Does it sound like the motor/pump died? Everytime I call they tell me I just have to leave a message on their voicemail.
Your not going to get any answers without a fuel pressure gauge on it. Especially if it's a truck you depend on for a business. Heck this could easily be a bad gas cap/tank venting issue. I'd open the can and see if the problem magically goes away.
AIRDOG pump problem part 2. HELP HELP HELP
It seems like everytime I post anything that I actually need help with it never gets any responses. I finally got in touch with Airdog yesterday and they said they would send me a new pump/motor, i just had to pay the next day air. I just put it in, its 20 degrees out, there was no gelling, the pump runs and has a little bit of noise to it, maybe gurgling? Maybe totally normal? Now i'm freakin the f out!!! Is there an easy way to get a fuel gauge on there? I'll try the fuel cap.

there is an 1/8" pipe thread port on the housing of the pump to install their idiot light. you can do that as a quick and easy to check pressures with a mechanical gauge but that would be psi at the pump but if your lines are clear of debris it should be pretty close to what the cp3 is seeing

You got one from me. Install a fuel pressure gauge and you'll know exactly what's going on at all times and you'd know if your pump was pumping or not. It can save you from a whole lot of walking one day.

Thanks 1-2-3! I took the cap off and it ran perfectly after that.
I wish i did that yesterday
I can't believe something so simple can cause so many headaches. Last winter I rebuilt my entire tranny to my 96' 3500 and bought a new TQ for it and hadn't driven it for two years because it was stuck in 2nd from a stop. After all that BS it was an effin fuse! The said it was for the rear trailer lights??? Well Thanks again.

"I took the cap off and it ran perfectly after that" Now that you've done that, that means the tank isn't venting. The lift pump is pulling a vacuum on it. You gotta put air in the tank to get fuel out. Someone may chime in here, but I beleive there is suppose to be a vent on your tank. There was one year that Dodge left the vents capped by mistake and it caused alot of problems. You can rtake this a step further, and add a special tank vent that will allow it to hold more fuel. I'm gonna do it some day. Theres a spot in the tank with a hump that causes air to get trapped and it cant take any fuel. You basically vent that section with it's own vent. And get a FP gauge.
Oh----"I can't believe something so simple can cause so many headaches." I always start with the fixes that are simple and free. I've seen many suggestions that start off with things that cost tons of $$$$. There's always someone on the rv forums that reply to questions about unusual trailer tire wear with advice to take it to a truck alignment shop and spend a thousand bucks on getting the axles heated and bent instead of simple things like unloading the extra 12,000 pounds of junk you'll never need. My FIL carried a weedeater in his RV for years.

Oh, and I see by your 93 post count your new here...LOL...so welcome. This is by far the single best place to be in regards to these trucks. No other site will ever come close, so welcome aboard, and if you got a wife or GF, set her up with a girls night and spend some quality time browsing. You won't go wrong.
