additive = rough idle WHY

I got a good one….When I add Opti-Lube XPD, Amsoil Diesel Concentrate or Power Service Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost, my truck has a rough idle and hard first crank. It goes back to smooth idle and easy crank when no additive. The only thing that I have put in it that has not caused any issues is Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant. Truck has 84K on it and is stock except for what is the signature below. Can any of you good people provide any advice on this???? Thanks in advance for the help.

We need to know what you have. Guessing it is a newer truck but more details would help.

BTW I see no signature.

I started using Power Service when I bought my truck new, then switched to Howes Meaner Kleaner, and am now using Stanadyne Jr Diesel fuel treatment. I have not had any problems with any of these products.

My guess is the cetane boosters maybe causing the longer cold starts and the rougher idle. Try cutting back on the boosters and see if it makes a difference.

Sorry I can not help with your question but I have one for you if you don't mind.

EMS has a conversion kit for the AAM axles?
Could I get a rough Estimate of what it cost you for the kit and installation?
4 MPG gain would be great.

Thanks,

bluebull, the kit is 1295.00, this is the lighter duty kit, I did not need anything any heavier. Also could tell a difference in steering for the better. http://www.emsoffroad.com/products/hubconvert.htm

I have used pretty much all the additives at some point. I really like the opti Lube. The only rough Idle I had was with the summer blend and all I did was add a little PS to it and it smoothed right out. Hope that helps!!

How much are you adding to your tank? It could be your putting in to much additive in to your fuel and that can cause problems. Are you mixing all of them together or trying them one at a time? IIRC you only use 10 oz of Power Service to 34 gallons of diesel. I also use 6-8 oz of Lucas 1 or 2 times a month just to keep the injectors clean.

I don’t do overkill, for example yesterday on the way to VA, I put in 6oz of Howe’s Meaner Power Kleaner to see if it would work and still have rough idle. And I have not mixed the additives.

Opti lube is 1/2 ounce per gallon for the XPD and 1 ounce for 20 gallons on the Summer blend!! It's like Syrup!
