Adding Cruise Control, possible to do so?

I've been pondering this for quite some time now. My truck is a basic edition model, no power locks/windows or cruise control. I can live without the power windows/locks but the more and more I hit the freeway, the more and more I want CC. I hate going on long trips having to keep my foot on the pedal, not only does it get tired but it just flucuates to much in mph. 70mph to 65mph then back to 75mph.

So my question is, is there any way possible to hook up CC onto a truck like mine? What all is involved in this procees? Do any of you know where I can mabe get a kit or have someone install this?

Thanks to all of you DTR fellas.

It'd be pretty easy to rig something up, but how good it would look would depend on your fab skills. I've never seen a "kit" type, but someone has to make one.

Apparently, you can buy all the OME equipment and just plug & play. Cost you about $35.00.

$35, that's all? I was expecting something like a couple of hundered. Annabelle, you've done this to your truck? Im guessing you would have to order this OEM stuff from a dealer?

I'd probley have them install it if they do sell something like this, because when it comes to working with electronics my mind shuts down and I loose all sense of what's going on, unless it's a super easy install.

Its not a problem. I had a bare bone plain Dakota and after about a year of knee pain, I broke down and put Cruise Control on it. Just walked in the dealer, told them what I wanted, and walked out about 3 hours later. Cant remember the price tag exactly, but I think it was around 600 or so.

$600. Holy smokes. That's a large jump from $35 .

Why so much? Did they put in a new steering wheel w/ the buttons already recessed inside of it? I'd be happy just having the buttons in a pod ontop of the wheel or something.

I think it was 600, but I cant remember. This was in 98. But yes, they put in the "cruise" steering wheel. Even got an airbag out of the deal

Yea I don't need the "cruise" wheel. I'd be happy with just a pod or some contraption setup.

labreck - Any more info on this aftermarket kit, who made it, who installed it? Any pics or a link where I can check this out. Thanks.

Take a look on eBay, I've seen some dealers selling a Mopar kit on there before.

My searching skills may be lacking but I did not find any cruise control kits on Ebay.

Is there a company that specalizes in this kind of stuff?

Adding CC to a diesel is a bit more complicated and expensive than doing it to a gasser. Diesels don't produce engine vacuum. Most CCs use engine vacuum to run the servo for the CC. I know the factory CC on my '04 quit working right after the 3/36 warranty was up. The "vacuum pump" had gone bad. Just that repair, replacing the pump, cost over $300. So, I'm pretty sure a complete CC kit plus installation would be more than $35. That is, unless the vacuum pump is there for some other use. Everything else on my '04 still functioned properly when it was bad, so seems like the CC is the only use for it. Other year models may differ.
