Adding 2 Stroke Oil to 2007 5.9?

I am new to the diesel world but have been drag racing and building my car and buddies cars for about 7 years. If my questions are remedial I apologize in advance.

I read that adding 2 stroke oil to every tank full of fuel in 07's may cause damage to the fuel/emissions system. I saw it in a test which some company compared many different fuel additives. Is this true? How many with 07 5.9's run 2 stroke oil in their tanks?

Thanks,
Rob

I think the concern is with the 6.7s and the DPF. No additives unless you want to buy many DPFs.

2007 5.9 with no DPF should be OK.

The 6.7s you can't run it because of the DPF. I've been running it in my 06 since new.

not to HiJack the thread, but is it ok to run synthetic 2 stroke oil? I have a lot of left over syn 2 cycle from the boat I sold. It is a 2006 5.9L

I have been running regular TCW3 2 stroke oil for about 3k miles and has been fine, but worried about using the synthetic.

The general consincess is "No" for synthetic 2-stroke use.

Thumbs up

As long as it is TC-W3, it does not matter if it is synthetic or dino. The synthetic may be even lower in ash than the dino. I am now running Amsoil Sabre outboard oil. I am only mixing 1/2 oz per gallon of fuel. When I was running the Wally World Outboard oil I was using an ounce per gallon (128 to 1 mix).

Use the synthetic. Up to 128/1 is ok, but you could probably go leaner and still be OK.

By DPF, do you mean the catalytic converter? If so then my truck has one. If I removed it and put in a test pipe would it set off the check engine light?

DPF refers to the particulant filter, not the cat. All the newer trucks have cats, I think they started putting them on these trucks in the late 90s.

if you have a 5.9 you dont have a particulate filter , just a cat. just leave the cat alone and add 1 qt walmart supertech outboard oil per tank of fuel and you will be amazed by how quiet your motor will become. I run that same mix in my 06 and my 04 and it blew my mind how much injector noise went away . it wont hurt a thing.

Thanks everyone for your help, I am going to start adding 12 oz. of PS with 16 oz. of 2 stroke oil every fill up (35 Gallon tank). This looks like a very helpful forum, I am happy I joined.

You are going to overdose the PS. You only need 9.6oz. per tank. That bottle treats 300 gallons of diesel.
