acceptable oil filter
What is a list of acceptable oil filters for my 05 CTD.
Last time I changed i had to buy a napa oil filter, and one of my dad's buddies told me he had a napa on his 03 and it broke to pieces and ruined his CTD with 12,000 miles on it. I usually run Baldwin, but the local shop didn't have one the other day. Why on earth could a reputable company sell something that ruins your engine?

I have seen the approved list here so you might want to do a search to find it. (I was too lazy to look for ya) I do know the Fleetguard and Mopar are on the list. I think the Napa Gold is also there. I do know for sure the Fram is NOT on the list so stay away from that one for sure!!
Fleetguard! Lots of us buy online from Geno's Garage. They have a nice 4-2-1 kit they deliver to your door. http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo....K2003-AF-FL-DG
FLEETGUARD ...and their best is 'STRATAPORE' ... from genos... but DTR is working on getting them ...CALL LARY tell him WE NEED FILTERS...THERE are $$$$ 's to be made...LOL
really Fleetguard stratapore are the best
and only 'FLEETGUARD and MOPAR are covered by warranty

There was an approved list on oil filters for 2001 trucks. At that time Fram was using a glue that allowed the materials to eventually come apart. They did back there product and their current filter holds together fine. Fram is not my first choice and certainly not very popular on the site but they did stand behind their product. A NAPA, Wix, Fleetguard, Baldwin, Mopar, and others will be fine and not ruin your warranty contrary to what others say. DC recommends only MOPAR and Cummins products to be used on their trucks (imagine that). There was an act quite a few years ago called the Magnuson Moss act. To paraphrase, it said that if routine replacement parts need to be used on a vehicle to maintain the warranty, then they must be supplied to the buyer AT NO CHARGE. DC says the filter must meet or exceed it's recommendations and that the MOPAR and Fleetguard filters do that. Having said that, if you feel better about Fleetguard, then order from Genos. They do have good prices and you will have the piece of mine knowing that is a genuine Cummins product. I use Luberfiner filters from Champion labs. I have a lot of confidence in that product. Personally I like NAPA and WIX filters too. Hope that helps.

I use the Napa, filters, but I use the donaldson heavey duty diesel, they are a lot cheaper than the dodge filters and are rated just fine, and they list them at the 7 micron or close to that,
Funny after all these years people still dont get it.
The issue with filters is not about how well it filters most seem to do a fine job with the filtration end of things.
The problem is with aftermarket filters is that some cannot stand the pressure spikes of up to 120psi that these Cummins engines can generate.
Not only that but this engine can move some massive amounts of oil.
So what happens is the filter itself starts to come apart and introduce itself into your engines lubrication system. In most cases causing a clogged piston cooling nozzle or J jet which will immediately cut off lubrication to one or more of your cylinders.
Need I say more?

I'm getting my Fleetguard filters from the local Peterbuilt shop. It's actually cheaper than Genos and I don't have to pay shipping or wait. Not doggin' on Genos I still buy other stuff from them.
