acceleration shutter
acceleration shutter
When i first bought this truck it came standard with an acceleration shutter witch was promptly removed via a driveshaft replacement and some shimming by the dealer.
Was never bothered by it again until about two weeks ago ,shortley after having the rear universall joint replaced by a dealer.
Wasn't too noticable until i hooked up a trailer and headed for Forida, now when i accelerate from a stand still it feels like i am going over a rumble strip-once under motion it is fine.
whats up ?

Probably check the U joints again. There have been some posts about the U joints continually failing prematurely. Also have you turned the truck up or do you have a lift or aftermarket tires? I know in my trucks case I need traction bars to prevent the off the line shudder I get.. not that the lift and big tires have anything to do with that..

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Check center support brg.
They may have removed aligning shims from long ago by mistake.
Many units will shudder on roll out under load. It's drive line angle thing with diff. You can look under and see diff bobble up/down a time or two on roll out.

yes it does it every time i accelerate from a complete stop. i unloaded the trailer here in Fl yesterday and the shudder is not nearly as bad now. unhooked the trailer completley and the shutter is still there but just enough to be noticeable

Humm.A CHEAP try is adding a bottle of Liminted Slip Additive to the differantial.Any seems to do like from a Advance or Auto Zone etc.I chased the same issue with my truck and spent a few hundered bucks hunting it.Added one bottle of additive and gone in less then 10 miles. Not suppose to be needed in AAM axels but I'm NOT the only one whom has had to do same thing.Mine and others I've read about were worse HOT and on a left turn from a stop.Bottle is less then $10 bucks and won't hurt a thing.I just crawled under truck, pulled plug and added the 6 ounces of the stuff.Worh a cheap try.You can also lok and see if any shim marks left above the center support bearing and not there now.
i'm going with the center support bearing, cuz thats what mine did until yesterday when the support bearing stopped doing its job. wait til it goes, it will make you think you have a flat it vibrates so bad. covered under the 7/70 warranty though.
i have the 100,000 mile Chrysler Maxi Care warranty and have 97000 on it now so should be good to go.
Mine has done this from day one and I took it back and they told me that it was normal to do that but it still shutters ever time I take off. Just like they tell me its normal that the accelerator sticks sometimes causing the engine to continue to accelerate while I am trying to stop the truck with both feet on the brake. (Accident waiting to happen.) Everything I have asked them to look at, they have told me its normal. But the shutter has not changed from mile 3 all the way to mile 9800. I have just learned to live with it.
take it to another dealer/repair facility. Mine did it the day i bought it i took it back they shimmed it and no more shutter until now (97000) i just had the rear u joint replaced and it started again----will take back for repair first of week
