Question ? About Warrenty Work

I WANTED YOUR IDEAS ON WHAT I SHOULD DO. I NEED TO TAKE MY TRUCK IN AND HAVE MY #5 PISTON FIXED SEEMS THAT IT WAS INSTALLED BACKWARDS AND IT IS HITTING A OIL COOLING NOZZLE. I HAVE K&N FILTER CHARGER, 4 INCH EXHAUST, BOOST, PYRO, AND FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE. THE BOX I KNOW I HAVE TO TAKE OFF. BUT JUST NEED TO KNOW IF I NEED TO PUT THE STOCK AIR BOX AND EXHAUST BACK ON. AND ALSO THE CLUTCH BECAUSE I HEARD THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE SHORT BLOCK. ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATTED. THANKS

I'd CHANGE THE AIR BOX,BUT WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT THE OTHER STUFF. THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE ON CUMMINS. HOW MANY POUNDS OF BOOST ARE YOU RUNNING? I HAVE THE TOW QUADZILLA IT WAS AROUND 28# BEFORE IT GOT REAL COLD, NOW IT'S 25. I WONDER IF THE COLD HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE DROP IN BOOST?

How did you determine that the piston was installed backwards? What kind of noise did it make and when? I have a customer with an 03 that is complaining of a engine noise, but in listening to it I honestly can't hear anything that raises any flags for a problem. He just says it's noisier than when he bought it and is convinced that there is a mechanical prob somewhere.

I was told (by a dealer not a service rep.) that the trucks computer records EVERYTHING, how many times the truck was started on a certain date, the rpm range it ran at, past fault codes that have or havent been cleared. If all this has any truth to it... seems like theyd easily be able to tell if a box had been installed. Another silly question (Ive only ever worked with gasser engines) but the pistons were resessed for valve clearance on both sides if at all. so there was no putting them in backward. Short of useing a borescope (may want to ask if they have one just as a bit of detective work) I caint imagin how they figured that one out. Have you considered getting a second opinion on that noise?
