6 Speed Shifting 'Loose'

When I shift my 6 speed very lazily (not hot rodding it, but slowly going thru the gears), every so often I cannot find a gate. It ussually happens in the 4 to 5 shift. When I cannot find fifth gear, I let the shift lever float back to where it wants to & pull strait back - hoping to put it back in forth. It does not go in either. After fumbling around for ten seconds or so, I get it in some gear. This does not happen often (maybe once a week), but when it does, it can be areal safety problem (someone may rear end me). For a while I thought that it was something that I was doing, but now I really don't think so.

Anyone else have this experiance? What should I do?

I have the same problem. My truck has only 1700 miles on it and I have been told the problem goes away with useage. It has gotten a little better or maybe I'm getting better at dealing with it, I don't know, but I'm patiently waiting.

it happens sometimes with me also. i usually at that point put it in neutral clutch out, give it a little throttle [1000-1200 rpm] then clutch in again and find my 4th or 5th gear

Yep, give the tranny some time to loosen up a bit. The 4-5 shift is pretty tight until the tranny is broken in. If you miss the shift rev matching and double-clutching helps as mentioned above.

I found it's a combination of the tranny loosening up and you learning where the transmission likes to shift. For example, 3-4 and 5-6 are down and to the right, a 4-5 is really almost straight up (interesting gate that they put on this tranny). You will learn and the tranny will loosen up. This transmission is kinda annoying to shift until you get used to it.

Now I can bang gears almost as fast as I used to be able to in my Jag which had a TKO in it.

No, 3 1/2" is stock and I also have a Banks SS 4" glass pack muffler. Interestingly, I thought it would be louder. If it is, it is barely noticable.

They went to a 4" on all the 600s. The 555s had 3.5" ....... But that has nothing to do with the transmision.
