6.0 gasser vs. cummins HAHA!
6.0 gasser vs. cummins HAHA!
Look what this guy is spewing all over a car forum that I belong to. I've never seen so much bs. Probably upset that he can't afford a diesel I guess! Curious to see your thoughts..

The fuel economy is what really tipped the scales for me. The average Dmax coming in to our shop (I check them all) is showing an average fuel economy of ~12.5 MPG. The average 6.0 is showing ~10.5. I get 11.5-12 on the highway with no trailer and 9.5-10 towing heavy on the highway. It is going to take about 100 years to recover the extra $5000+ asking price at that rate or I could sink the 5k in the 6.0 and run circles around Diesels.[/QUOTE]
My 2psi: Wow... Again, your argument is extremely flawed. NEW diesels are cleaner then ever and extremely quiet. My Mega does 21mpg hwy (not broken in and no box - bone stock) If you go 200K in both trucks (yes a diesel will last that long and no your chevy probably won't) The diesel will cost you 22,759 in fuel 2.39/gal whereas the gasser would cost 40,571 @ 2.13/ga in fuel. That's a savings of $17,810.00!!! The gap would be much further exacerbated when you factor in towing! You also have the option of making your own diesel which my friend is doing for .60 cents /gal!
Dump 6K into your truck and call me. We'll chain em up and I promise that will drag your gasser anywhere you want to go. Actually, bring a friend. I'd like to pull them both together.
Real trucks burn diesel.

I'm glad you are getting such great mileage, another Dodge owner I'd imagine. I'd wager you'll be in for repairs alot sooner than me though, all of my gas engines have lasted 200,000 or more miles and aren't susceptible to the common Diesel fuel related problems (amplified by100x when you start making your own fuel). Diesels are getting quieter than they used to be but they still lag light years behind gas engines with emissions and noise, most especially the Cummins. I would pay extra up front not to have to live with that engine every day.
How about I dump 6k in my gasser and we race instead? I'll pull far enough ahead to stop, hitch up my trailer and still get back out in front of you, pull away and disappear again. End His Quote).
I told him I would hook up to his truck X2 and watch 2 chevy's grenade as I rip the frame out from underneath them.

Apparently he's not very well educated in the diesel world. I wouldn't even continue to argue with him. You can't get people like that to listen. Of course he admits he needs to dump 6k into his to get it to run with yours. How about you dump 2k on a TC, VB and a hearty box and run them. He doesn't have a clue.
Well I'd bet with 6k he could more then likely hand you your edited by admin
with 6k and the right know how he could make a solid engine with a great power band where as your stuck in the 3k for rpm's he'll be over 6k for rpm's
last yaer we took a stock 32vavle 4.6L ford motor threw in fordged rods, and pistons left the stock crank in, new fuel system front to back. and a couple of turbo's
and she put down 748hp and 816trq at 26 PSI everything was hand fabbed by my buddy so it maybe cost around $4500
long story short he went 9.46 at 149mph in his mustang and he drives it to and from the track about a hour away.
And he could turn the boost up a little more but it was hard enough getting traction as it was.
so to say you pull him allover the place and let alone 2 gas motors is a little far fetched

Yea, I'm not really concerned with racing him - that's why I have a 1000rwhp sports car and a sportbike. Guy with the same setup runs mid 8's and yes, it's a car that could also drive hours to the track and back - that wasn't the argument. It was him saying that a gasser is more economical and would outlast a cummins, lol! Bought the truck to haul the toys, as, that's what trucks are for. It doesn't make sense for me to make the truck fast.

Chain em up and find out...but you might be a bit surprised. Pulling someone backwards takes two things...weight and traction. You have the weight, no doubt about that..but he has the traction in the GM. Locker rear end instead of that sissy limited slip, springs that don't wrap and independent front suspension will keep more traction on the ground for him than you will get. Should be an interesting fight.
I personally saw a GM 3/4 ton embarrass the hell out of a dodge 2500 diesel because of all the things I just noted. Towed him around the lot backwards for TWO laps. It was quite depressing...you just can not fault GM on their traction and suspension...it is light years ahead of dodge. Note, I did not say the duramax is better than the cummins.....but chain the two trucks together and you will be travelling backwards.

I'm starting to get a little curious about you truck.
There is a reason we have a Street Gas class around here and a Street Diesel pulling class around here.
Answer= The gas trucks dont have an ice cubes chance in hell of competiting with the diesel pickups.

Here's your "GM traction" and Dodge "sissy limited slip"...if you're a Dodge man, there is nothing depressing about this. It's quite obvious that the Cummins is just playing with the Duramax. You can see all four wheels spinning on that Chevy, by the way...then the Dodge LETS him pull him back and in the middle of being pulled backwards, hooks back up and drags him AGAIN...If you think that the suspension and traction is light years ahead, edited by admin and while we're on the topic of GM being light years ahead, why don't you head on over to a GM forum and ask them why they have to sleeve their tie rods so they don't snap...Chevy angles their tie rods, where as Ford and Dodge use straight through and MUCH more efficient tie rods...
Derek
PS...that Dodge might have a leveling kit, but take a stock 3/4 ton 4x4 Dodge and a stock 3/4 ton 4x4 Chevy off roading and see where that superior suspension, traction and clearance gets ya...
