5600 Slick Stuff

What fluid is supposed to be in the 5600 six speed? Dealer says dino oil. I thought they were synthetic. Who knows for sure? They just replaced bearings in my tranny and they were going to refill it with dino - - I had them make it synthetic, but now of course they will charge me for the fluid. Is it dino?

ConfusedBob,
It is definately dino! Mopar part Number 4761526 spec MS-9224. After having it rebuilt (under Warrenty?) I sure would go with the approved, factory fluid. Maybe change after you are sure it is OK.

Yu is sooo right, Mr Boss Hog. Just got back from picking baby up. Saw the part number myself. I did have them go synthetic and they did not charge me for the change since I am having this stupid rattling noise they cannot find. They changed out shaft bearings - - initial drive home seemed about 50% quieter, but it did not whip all the noise. We will see with a little driving. I am not messing with it any more for now. I am hooking up the fiver and heading out for about 12,000 miles, so that should make any problems spring their ugly head - - - yeh, probably in the middle of Newfoundland with no dealers around. I can see it now, two wreckers hauling the truck and the fiver onto the ferry for the trip back to Nova Scotia trying to find a dealer. Oh joy. Hopefully it is something that is annoying, but not significant.

TravelinBob,
Be sure and have a safe trip and tell us all about it when you get back. I'm sure the White Ghost will take good care of you.

Don't worry Bob mine makes the same rattle since new. 45k now and still fine. I changed the fluid about 2k ago because it was shifting like a box of rocks. About 50% better. I'll come rescue you if you get stuck. Just stay outa Quebec. I will never go there unless someone puts a gun to my head.

I have never been there - - been all around it, but never in it. Everyone tells me I should see it. We will be in Toronto, Devils Lake, then heading east. Makes sense to go see it. Why don't you like it?

And, I didn't know your truck had the same rattle. My tech thinks it is just gear rattle, big tranny, lots of power and diesel which is not as smooth as a gasser. He feels real confident with it - - it looked good inside to me. Hopefully the synthetic will help smooth it out a bit - - we'll see.

Hey, I know how to warm up to them people. I will put a "Let's bomb Iraq" bumper sticker on the Ghost, hey? That should fire them up. Or maybe a picture of the graveyard in France where thousands of Americans are buried trying to save their hides.

Wouldn't do any good. They are so involved with themselves that they can't see past their noses. No right turn on red also. Ask me how I know.
