For those that don't know when he said 5 mic absolute that means the filter is 98.7% efficient @ removing particles 5 mics or larger. 2 mic nominal = 50% efficient @ removing particles 2 mics or larger.

On to the Questions.
1) Will using these drop in filters with finer filtration restrict or affect fuel flow? Seems to me logic would dictate smaller holes = more restriction.

2) In addition to GDP's 2 mic add on filters they offer a filter & F/W separator combo. is there any need for a separator on a stock fuel system?
I am running a stock lift pump, a Baldwin FS1212 (20um f/w sep), PF7977 in the OE canister( 5um f/w sep), and Cat 1R-0750 (2um fuel only).. With that setup and stock fueling I have yet to see below 5psi at the CP3 (and I have 18K miles on the filters).

I like the idea of 2 f/w seps personally, even on a stock system. I prefer to have them separate to stage the filtering vs the dual head.

Thank`s for all the advice on fillters. An update, Dodge called & said my parts would be in between the 6th & the 16th of next month. That means I`ll be without my truck for at least two weeks. This is not good. This is my work truck. They said they have 8 trucks waiting on injectors.

Out of the blue the dealer called me to say my truck is ready. I`m feeling better already. They had the truck for 8 days. That was bad but at least it wasn`t over two weeks like they told me two days ago.

The teck said it was the wiring on the injectors not the tips. This made me feel better because he said it was a flaw & nothing that I had done wrong. Thanks to all ya`ll for letting me gripe for awhile.

Sorry if I'm being thick in the head here, but are we saying the Baldwin PF7977 is better than the FLEETGUARD FS19856, which is all I've ever ran.

Yes. The Baldwin PF7977 is the best filter you can get for your OE filter bowl.

2 micron fuel filtration needed to insure long injector life? my 97 PSD(primative compared to this 06 Cummins) didn't have a 2 mic filter and it was at 205K when i sold her. no issues at all and still on the road today

Its the switch to a high pressure common rail setup that has these trucks in danger of inadequately filtered fuel. I believe the fuel filter is the most important part of the truck. I use Airdog filters, don't know if they're made by another company like wix or fleetguard, but they have been exceptional.

Common rail enignes run more pressure more often than the HPOP w/ HUEI that your PSD has. Also the newer trucks fire more injection events than older trucks, all of which increases wear.

Common Rails are more filtration dependent across the board, not just the Dodge.

I am not sure about the new HUEI but the 95.5-97 injectors were generally replaced around the 140K mile mark (based on what I remember from 10 years ago) so 205K is pretty good.

They are made by Fleetguard. Their 2um filter is really a 5um filter (per Fleetguard) and their f/w sep is junk (50% free water, 0% emulsified water) when you consider the baldwin PF7977 is 5um and 95% free and 95% emulsified water removal.

I highly suggest running the OE filter in conjunction with the AD for proper f/w sep (OE spec calls for 95% free and 95%emulsified water removal)
