While you're waiting to get a 2 mic. filter system, you can use a Baldwin PF7977 in the stock housing for now. It's a 5 mic absolute/2 mic nominal filter. I used them for over 40K without any issues, & now I have a self fabbed 2 mic after the stock.

You have a much higher rail pressure and you are using a 2 or 3 time injecton to keep the noise down and get better powder The old ford only injected one time.

I plan on keeping the truck & I still like it but, I don`t buy into the idea that it`s nothing wrong with the injectors failing with so few miles. I`m not brand loyal to the point that I can`t see flaws. If there was a bad batch of injectors as Spooler says I can understand that. But if I have this to look forward to every 90,000 miles I won`t be happy. Anyway I`m just griping, any truck will break occasionally. In a week I`ll love with my truck again. Thanks for letting me vent about it.

Just consider how many ppl have had this same problem as you, alot; now consider that not all fuel you get will be quality, its gonna be inevitable with storage, its just the nature. Also consider that it was recommended by Cummins themselves to have at least 5 micron filtration but for some reason Chrysler didn't follow suit. I'm pretty positive if you spend a small amount of money for a 2-3 micron filter housing and possibly add a water and air separator and your injectors will be much safer. Even if your stix are part of a bad batch or not banyon, use this knowledge and help yourself out and filter your fuel better.

Im sure is been discussed before but does adding an aftermarket filter void warranty? I have around 85K stock with no problems but dont want any. Should I wait till 100K to add an aftermarket filter?

Many folks have went over 200,000 miles on the stock injectors. You are just the unlucky one....LOL Don't worry, the 04.5 trucks are also known for issues due to it being the first year of the new emissions, third injection event, higher factory rail pressure, new injector design.

It'll only void the warranty if it is the cause of the failure, which cleaner fuel will deter from happening.

No need to run an AD. Their f/w separation SUCKS (not even close to the OEM requirement).. Just put a Baldwin PF7977 in the stock housing and you have the same filtration as the AD, plus OE spec f/w separation.

I agree. My GDP kit is great, super easy to install.. But replace the FF5320 (really a 5um filter) with a Cat 1R-0750 (true 2um filter).

The key to HPCR injector life is filtration, filtration, filtration.. Personally I have 3 filters on my truck.

No offense but did your tech not know which injector was bad? I don't understand replacing them all if one is bad? I mean if Cummins supports replacing all under warranty then great, but if it happens out of warranty you might want to find a tech who can figure out which injector is actually bad.

P.S. I had my #3 injector replaced at 40K.

The teck told me that Dodge would replace the ones that were bad for free or all six if I payed them to drop the tank & clean everything. I went with the six- they all have the same miles on them. I`ve been working on diesel engines for 30 years, never a 5.9. If it was going to cost me much I would have fixed it myself. Now I`m mad again. I called this morning & was told I would be called back, I wasn`t. Then I called after lunch, no call back. About 4:30 I called again & was told the injectors are back ordered & might be here in a week. They were alittle rude about it when I told them it was crazy to have to wait a week on a part for a 5.9.They blamed Dodge for shutting down for a month. Is this Dodge or the dealer?

OK Here we go,,,are you saying replace The GDP filter (FF5320) with a cat filter 1R-0750 I assume it is spin on????? and a direct replacement???

I orderd 5 of the Baldwin 7977 drop in's for the factory canister today

They are a direct replacement....spin on. I just switched to the CAT filter myself.......from the fleetguard. Both seem fine though.

I just read on here that the CAT filters better, but I don't know that with certainty.

Yes the FF5320 is actually a cross for the Cat 1R-0750, but not as efficient. on the same standard the FF5320 is 5um and the 1R-0750 is 2um.

Couple Questions and a comment

For those that don't know when he said 5 mic absolute that means the filter is 98.7% efficient @ removing particles 5 mics or larger. 2 mic nominal = 50% efficient @ removing particles 2 mics or larger.

On to the Questions.
1) Will using these drop in filters with finer filtration restrict or affect fuel flow? Seems to me logic would dictate smaller holes = more restriction.

2) In addition to GDP's 2 mic add on filters they offer a filter & F/W separator combo. is there any need for a separator on a stock fuel system?
