5.9 engine interchange info HELP

I wound up owning a 2005 pick up with a rod thru the block also the turbo and pump are missing. In an attempt to locate an entire motor I learned only 04-05 are listed as a drop in.
Checking further the factory shows the part number for a remaned long block assy, and it shows only fitting 04-05 yet if you pull the short block pn it fit’s 04-08 I guess it’s something in the head.
Can anyone give me more info what the differences would be with 06-08 and why they won't work should a complete engine be found. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Are you looking to drop in a 5.9 or a 6.7?

07 was the last year for the 5.9. If so, Ill move this over to the 5.9 section.

If it is a 6.7 then it would be a massive undertaking with different ECM tranny setup etc (auto anyway)

Im not sure if an 06-07 would be an easy job either with the canbus system controlling the ECM.

If you have an 05, then you have the 5.9.
