5.9 almost gone...

I heard today that if anyone wants to order a 5.9 diesel before it changes you better get it in within the next week, or find it on a lot! Then it will be the new 6.7 after that. The new six speed auto is looking like it won't be here until the end of '07, we shall see what happens with that.

All I have heard is how much the market for 5.9's is gonna go up as of lately. Not to trash the 6.7's (havent drove one), but the 5.9 is the Cummins workhorse and deal breaker for me.

The dealer in Dallas Ga, and the Dodge website, states that the 6.7 will only be avail for the chassis cab model in 07. The 5.9 will remain in the 3500 and 2500. The dealer told me that he doesnt know of any future plans for the 6.7 in the 3500.. Im sure Dodge is awaiting word from the customer on that one. Not sure I would need a 6.7 anyway, but I would like a 6 speed auto/manual tranny like the Allison.

I think the GA dealer is a little off, as starting Jan 1st, the new emission requirements have to be met, and the 5.9 has not been out fitted woth the required hardware to make that happen, which is also why Cummins designed the 6.7. After Jan 1st, most all dodge diesels will have the 6.7 in it. I think that some commercial trucks that are exempt from the emmission requirements will still get the 5.9, but that would not be a truck like you go to the dealer and get as a daily driver....

Why would ANY of the comercial trucks be exempt from emission control gadgets. If the EPA is requiring the gadgets on all of the medium duty trucks, then every new diesel on the road, in the sea or at the construction site should have the emission control gadgets !!!!!! IMHO

Happy,,, Go to the Dodge website,,, you cannot put together or see an 07 3500 with a 6.7.... except for the chas cab 3500. The 5.9 is equiped for future epa concerns. The commercial side is the one getting the 6.7 stock...

HappyGa is correct, the 6.7 will be the only diesel we will have after jan. 1. The reason they do not show the 2500/3500 on the site yet, is that they made the new power and torque ratings lower to throw off chevy and ford... The real #'s on the 6.7 are higher than it states on the cab and chassis. This is what I was told by our Cummins rep. I think it is going to be 345/650. We shal see. On a possitive note, I did drive a cab and chassis with a 6sp manual, and it has great power, feels just like the 5.9 so the new smog junk did not seem to kill it. Of course I have not towed with it yet.

Frahm

How about calling up Dallas Dodge In Ga..and letting them in on this.....I asked them several times this week...and they insisted that the 6.7 will not be avail. in the 25 or 35 next year only the chass cab... I told them I was ready to order one..they said I could order all the 07's I wanted but it would be with a 5.9

Maybe it is only in California then, because we are a dealer out here and the cut off to order with a 5.9 is within this next few days here...

That would make since, because the 6.7 runs on a new low sulfer fuel that will only be avaliable in California and few other stations across the country. It is said that other states will have up to 4 years to change to the new fuel. Th6.7 will only run on the new stuff, but the 5.9 will run on both. I'm sure that is what it is.

but....what about the fuel stickers on all the diesel pumps at every station that states it will be illegel to run anything other than ULSD in 07 and later models????

Does that mean those models will only be able to get fuel at a few stations... I doubt it... ULSD will be in all tanks by the end of this year across the country. 6.7's will be in all dodge's that get diesels after 1/1/07...
