4X4 light flashing
4X4 light flashing
My wife's truck, a 2006 Ram 2500 Mega, 5.9, 4X4, 6spd, had the brake and ABS light come on a while back. The speedo also stopped working. On another forum I was told about the ABS sensor on top of the rear diff, which I replaced, but nothing changed. My wife found out the hard way the other day in the snow that the 4WD does not work. She turned the **** and the 4X4 light on the dash just flashes. I'm wondering if these issues might be related or not. What does the flashing 4X4 light indicate? More snow on the way so I need to get this fixed and the wife wants to take it to the dealer. I'd like to fix it myself and save some coin. Any ideas? Thanks.

You will need to check for any codes stored or active first. You can check the shift motor circuit by following this diagnostic test. Test light needed or you can fabricate one using a 12 volt bulb, I use a headlight bulb since it loads the circuit more then a test light could. Also the A/C pressure transducer and the transfer case shift motor share a common 5v power feed, check the wiring near the ac compressor for shorts.
The shift motor is a permanent magnet D.C. motor with gear reduction to convert a high speed-low torque device into a low speed-high torque device. The output of the device is coupled to a shaft which internally moves the mode and range forks that change the transfer case operating ranges. The motor is rated at 25 amps maximum at 23° C (72° F) with 10 volts at the motor leads.
The motor is easy to change only 3 bolts and connector plug.
