4WD maintenance

I have always owned 2WD’s and tell my friends that the only time I miss having a 4WD is when I am stuck. Now looking at new and considering 4WD, my question is to those of you that have had 4x4’s and put on lots of miles, how to you find the maintenance costs? Is the driveline, transfer case and front axle fairly reliable on the Rams or is a guy looking at a lot of repairs down the road? Also, any thoughts on what it costs you in fuel economy?

I have 155,000 miles on my 2WD and it still has the original u-joints and the only work I have had to do on the driveline/suspension is one set of ball-joints and shocks.

Thanks

just do the required gear oil changes at 15k, lube the ujoint, even though dc says it is not greaseable, maintain the lube in the t case. and periodically engage both high and low in the tcase to keep things lubed and free.

If you don't need a 4x4 don't get a 4x4.
