Thumbs up 48RE Trans-Go shift kit installed today!

Just wanted to comment on the trans-go kit for the 48RE, Just a little background: I'm relatively new to owning a Cummins, rougly a year or so, I mainly bought the truck to tow a 24 ft Enclosed trailer to the races etc.. A few buddies of mine have dodges and couldn't stop raving about how awesome they are to modify, so i picked up the truck with about 20k on it. I towed for the whole year since i got it, picked up a Edge Juice w/attitude with the hot unlock towards the end of the year, did an exhaust and drop in filter. Being curious, after the box install i turned it up to 4-5.. and rolled into it on the highway, and it seems like the convertor just wasn't holding the power as it kept on showing the % slip creep to 20%-30%, same goes for Level 5-5 Hot even worse, as the slip was instant, I had no issues on level 3-5 So being on a budget and wanting the converter to last me another year (so i can knock down the truck note a little bit more) I went for the Trans-Go 48RE shift kit. A friend of mine installed it, as he installed them in numerous trucks. Him being a skilled Diesel Tech, it took him approx. 3.5 hours including lunch break, and messing around etc. As he was dropping the tranny pan, He says to me," If there are any metal shavings in the pan, I'm putting the pan back up, and your gonna have to get a tranny/converter, luckily there wasn't a spec of metal shavings, 3.5 hours later and 12 quarts of ATF+4, we went for a ride, i instantly felt the improvement on the firm shifts etc. We turned up the box to Level 4 - No Slip! , Turned up to level 5 - No slip and started to roll some coal on the highway. In all honestly, I wasn't expecting this mod to completely eliminate the slip. Before all this i was a pretty conservative driver and never really got into it.. On the way home a D-Max was trying to toy with me, turned it up to level 5 , aside from the edge box, this Trans-go kit was such a good investment, it did everything as advertised From a scale to(Novice) 1 to 10 (Professional), I would rate it a 5-6 for install as there are alot of moving pieces..

Sorry for the long story, just wanted to share this ..

that is awesome! I need to find a friend that will do mine; it sounds like your set up is similar to mine, but I havent pushed it past about 7% slip...glad to hear the Trans-GO did the trick.

i did a suncoast triple disc convt, and man what a difference. the truck spools alot faster and the shifts are alot more crisp. on the highway in level 3 giving it about a quater throttle the truck pulls so nicely. i just ordered a valve body from suncoast so hopefully that wakes it more.

Driving to Goerend on the 30th. I can't wait. Trans from Dave was the same price as one quoted from the dealer. I think I'll make the trip. I was having a similar problem with my Smarty. My issue is that it still slips now in the stock program. Mind telling me what the shift kit cost you?

The kit costed me around $70.00 Shipped. I purchased it from http://www.oregonperformancetransmis...egory_Code=MOP, they have an ebay store, where its cheaper.

I recently did the same for #2 son's '06 Big Horn Ram - just waiting for time for a more aggressive aftermarket torque convertor to round out the upgrade, which will eliminate all the oem factory mush - the increased hydraulic hookup should improve the B4-lockup fuel economy - Transgo 48RE Reprogramming kit is similarly priced from Suncoast

Isn't there a 'port' on the plate that you can drill out to a certain size to increase the firmness of the shift? If so, what was yours drilled out to?

It's not that simple - at least one hole in the new plate is enlarged which effects one area, but it takes the plate and all the pieces in the kit to get results in all the gear ranges, incl TCC lockup - this multi-casting valve-body is not nearly as simple as, fe, the one-piece GM valve bodies, so if you're gonna drop the pan to do the job, may as well do the job, knowwhuttimean..........

OK, that sounds logical. I'm always using "tow/haul" to get the firmer shifting and with my mild mods this sounds like the next upgrade for me. Thank you.
