48RE tranny sticks in first gear
48RE tranny sticks in first gear
Can anyone help me. I tow a 5th wheel about 40,0000 KM per year. The truck is a Quad Cab Long Box 2003 2WD with 68,000 KM on it. I check my GCWR and am below (just) the specs for my 2003. I have an extended warrenty ( 7 year 160KM ). It is allways serviced at Dodge dealers by the service book & I have made sure the Dealers stamp up the book & I keep all the work orders. Twice in the last week after driving then stopping at a 7/11 getting back in, restarting, & engaging "D" it will not shift out of first. The second time this happened I mannually down shifted to 2nd but it still stuck in first. I then stop & switch off, give it 10 or 15 min, restart & it works fine. Any idea why? I will take it into the the dealer this week for them to look at it but would like to have ideas to give them, thanks
The handy dandy 2000 manual basicly says tht you have one of the following:
Governor circiut electical fault
Valve body malfunction
front servo/kickdown band damaged/burned
throttle linkage out of adjustment/stuck
gearshift linkage misadjusted
front band out of adjustment
clutch or servo malfunction
good times

I believe the 7/100 powertrain warrenty will cover all of those items. I don't think they will give you any greif if you have all of the maintianance records, especially if they are all dealer service orders.
Hi, I have the standered 3 year 60KM warrenty, I'm at about 2&1/2 years & 68KM so I'm SOL on the standared. However I have the factory extended 7yr 160KM #708 which, from what I read in it, should cover it. All the services were dealer done, I have all the work orders & the book is stamped up to date. Can I ask another tranny question? At about 55MPH ( 80KM PH ) when it shifts into OD I hear this "crunch" sound. I took it to the dealer who told me it was "standared" being the turbo gulping air. What do you think?
my expierence is dodge dealers guess at about everything and try and scam their customers . if you want to stand a chance get a good aftermarket warrenty ( direct warranty is what i use and they take care of business http://www.autowarranty.cc/warranty_...ource=overture) and go directly to cummins for your service work.

Hi, As I deal with these dealers I agree, for one I don't even know if they even do a tire rotation never mind changing the oil. But I am stuck with it. Any ideas on the problem with the "crunch" sound I get at about 55MPH when it shifts into overdrive? Maybe in the US you have more options with after market warrenties then here in Canada, I will look into it when I trade in this unit
