48RE Shift Indicator Problem?

Today I was driving down the highway and manually moved the column shifter from 2nd to D. A few moments later when I looked down at the indicator it showed I was in reverse (circle around the R and not the D). I knew darn well the transmission wasn't in reverse, but I manually dropped it down a gear anyway. No selector was visible... which is sort of "normal" so I wiggled the shifter and still nothing... so I shifted back up to drive and low and behold it displayed D with the circle around it.

While I doubt this is a "normal" occurrence, has it happened to anyone else? Also, do you slushbox drivers notice that you have to wiggle the column shifter for the gear selector to be displayed? If not, it's off to the dealer I go to get this and a few other things checked out.

Never experienced that! When I select a position, it is always circled. Having said that, there have been numerous post that people set the shifter in P, and leave there vehicle to find out that it was really in R. You need to get that checked out and corrected ASAP. This could also be a safety issue.

I'm still getting used to the electronic gear indicator in my 2005. There is a little lag time between moving the lever until the light comes on. This is paticularly apparent first thing in the morning when I start the engine because I crank it in neutral instead of park. It seems like I can put the truck in neutral and the indicator doesn't come on until I jiggle the lever a little. In other words, I'm not real thrilled with this but I'm learning to put up with it.

Mine has started to act somewhat like that. Sometimes indicator doesnt show after shifting. Sometimes when shifting to Park I have to go back and forth a couple of times before the shift indicator shows on Park and not Reverse. I guess it has something to do with all of the electronics mixed with an old fashion shift lever. If it gets too bad I will eventually take it to the dealer.

I've noticed a bit of confusion at the park/reverse position. Its not constant, but enough to make me wonder. I put the truck in park, shut it down, but need to wiggle the selector to get it to start, and the R is lit instead of park.
Its happened 2 or three times in the last 2 months, so at some point I should take it in.

Hmm... well I guess I feel better knowing my problem isn't that unique. But now I know that I indeed have a problem. I'll wait for a few other things to add to the list before I take it in and let the meat fingers at the local dealership hack away at it.

It's pretty easy for the dealer to fix. I had a similar problem when I first got my truck. I think it's just a cable that needs to be adjusted. My mechanic adjusted it and it worked much better, but not perfect......sometimes a little hesitancy between N & D.
