Question 48RE overdrive clutch-pack setup?

Hey folks,

This is a question about modified transmissions and I didn't know for sure where to post it.

I'm in the midst of upgrading/overhauling my heap's A518 transmission and am converting the overdrive section to use 23 clutch/steels as in the 48RE. I'll be using a modified reaction plate so it'll all fit.

This arrangement uses single-sided clutches and steels.

Who goes in the stack first?

Clutch disc, or steel? Facing in or out?

What would be the final set-up clearance?

Thanks in advance.

Found the answer.

Seeing as they are single-sided friction elements, they are in effect both the friction AND steel. The friction side of one, works with the steel side of the next.

As such they are viewed as that with internal splines, and those with external splines.

Understanding that, the first disc (internal spline) goes in steel side in (toward the piston), The next disc (external spline) goes in the same, steel side in, etc.

To the 54 folks who looked, I thank you.
