Yes FiverBob, I am over at this site. All thanks to one of your posts some time ago at the Rv site. Thanks for your comments.

I might add, previously I was reading TDR and thought they had a good site but this site and guys are just super. I am glad to have found all of you.

As soon as Luke put his post on the 48RE, I started moving as that is what I had been waiting for. I was going to wait until the end of January and if no announcement I would probably have ordered the 6 speed. So thank you Luke, Thank you FiverBob and thanks to all the other guys here.

Now the wait............

Ken,

Good to have you here too. Your posts on the other site were always good and with insight and knowledge - - more than I can say from some of the others. I hung around here a long time reading and data gathering in anticipation of which way I would jump in my choice. Glad I jumped on the Dodge. Love it. Just amazed myself again this morning on the turning radius. Boy it turns sharp for such a big truck. Enjoy.

Bob

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob, thanks again for your nice comments.

You are certainly correct about the turning ratio. If you check my post on the reported test drives of the 4 trucks you will find that I noticed that right off. I put the SRW and then the DRW in a shopping center parking lot and just went round and round in a very tight circle. Not much difference between the SRW and DRW.

Guess we will have to re-learn backing the 5er in the camp site.

When I starting looking at the Dodge I prepared a chart for my use of the various truck configurations/curb weight and applied my RV weight/Pin/loaded stuff/fuel/passengers to each truck and the end choice was between the 3500SRW and 3500DRW. With the SRW SB I had only 600lbs remaining prior to exceeding my GVWR before I added running boards and being careful not to take too much in the RV. The GCWR was not a problem. I could have done it with the SRW without being overloaded but what about future RVs. With the DRW I have no limitations except learning how to drive it.

I also drove the Ford and the Duramax but they did not fit my desires or needs.

Each truck that I considered in the selection race I took to the scales during the test drive and checked the weight against what the manufacturer said they were. Only DC trucks came close. I remember taking the Duramax salesman with me and the weight came in 350lbs more than they said it was going to be. On the drive back to the dealership it got very quiet when I removed his truck from my selection.

I have gone on enough for now.

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I changed my mind and switched the new truck's color from white to silver like the one I have now. I decided I need to stay the same color as my trailer. And then I can be the same color of the #40 coors light car.

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Luke! Do you know the internal differences from a 47re to a 48re? I understand that you are a Dodge dealer, can you shed some light on the differences of a HO to a standard in the PCM programming? I do not see taking a hit on my truck going to a HO/48re if I can possibly make up the upgrades without losing 6-8k on buying a new one.Like your dually I only have 1500 miles. TY!

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know the exact differences between the 47 and 48re. I do have the pics. and part #'s on my parts computer and hopefully if I have time I can get some info off of it today for you. As far as the controller differences between the s.o. and the H.O., I don't know if the switch can be made. On the old body style rams we had a new engine controller that could be bought through Mopar accessories and it would boost the SO to the power of the HO without voiding warranty. However this was only available for the 5-speed trucks, not the auto's. I did have a strange thing happen once where we had an engine controller go out on a 2000 S.O./auto and Cummins sent us a new one except it was not for the SO it was for an HO. We tried it and the truck did run like a rapped ape but it would not idle right. It would lope really bad to the point where it would almost die. Cummins sent us a new one that was correct and everything was normal. I just don't know if this would work on a new 03', besides you can only get one through Cummins and they wont give us one unless we call them with the trouble codes and they must diagnose the problem :'( The only thing you can do is wait and see if they come out with a power enhancement for the S.O. from mopar if you want to keep warranty. If you don't care about warranty I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket companies that can take care of you. I really would not look for mopar to come out with an upgrade for the S.O./auto though because the 47re is about maxxed out with the 250/460 that the S.O. is at. I can order the S.O. with the 48re now and I'd be willing to bet they will come out with a power enhancement for that set-up. Sorry I could not shed much light on this topic.

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken, my truck is due to be produced in January. The 48re is all ready in production because they have made some trial runs and a very few of these trucks(like 20-30) are all ready built and in transit to dealers. I know this because they offered me one that I turned down because it was a 1-ton reg cab, 2wd, Laramie. A pretty worthless truck as far as I'm concerned. As quick as you and I jumped and ordered our trucks should be among the first one built. Hopefully your dealer has enough allocations for the HD quad cabs that your order is picked up. I had 4 allocations for Jan and mine was the only sold order that I have right now so it will definetely get built. Your dealer should be able to tell you how many Jan allocations he got and how many sold orders he has, and where yours is in line of when the order was recieved by DC. That will tell you weather yours will get built in Jan or not. Hope this helps.

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the information Luke. My dealer had a quota of 5 trucks for January so my order is the first one of them.

After thinking about my truck order over the weekend I decided to change my order and go back to the original Truck that I intended to purchased. That is the 3500 QC 2/4 SRW SB with the 4.10 rear axle. I called my dealer yesterday and changed my order. I have decided that I have the largest RV that I ever intend to purchase so this setup will work for me. It's tow rating is 16,450lbs. Could have gotten by with the 3.73 rear axle but decided it would be nice to smile as I go up any mountain road. I will have to decide which slider hitch to select, the Reese or the Pullrite.

This truck will fit in my garage.

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That truck should do the job. Definetely stick with the 4.10's, it makes a truck out of it with the auto anyhow.

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke,

Is there anything in the 48RE info that says something about being "Exhaust Brake Compatible"? That's the one thing holding up my decision on ordering a HO/48RE combo.

Thanks,
iron peddler

Re:48RE orderable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been posted here before that is says on Jacobs web site that their brake willbe compatable with the 48RE tranny. Any they are the Dodge authorised place for exhaust brakes so they should know.
