48re bangs into fourth

Sometimes, when I give my 03 more throttle accelerating, the trans bangs when shifting into fourth. It's a positive shift, but it shifts hard with a metallic sound. I'm right at 99.9 K and wonder if I have a problem looming.

Has it had regular maintenance, to include band adjustments?

No, not recently. Fluid changed when I put Magnatech pan on about 40K miles ago. Bands never adjusted.

I would look into the transfer case chain being loose. If that breaks then you bought a entire transfer case. They come off and wad up in the bottom and then the gear catches it and BLAM, the bottom comes off the transfer case. Had this happen on my Chevy with a NV241. It only takes about 1 second and then its too late.

Thanks, but I have a 2WD. I see that I'm overdue for trans service, though.

yeah, mine had 40k-ish on it when I bought it, and I was noticing the 4th was a bit harsh under load... did a simple drain and refill... and within a couple weeks, it got much smoother...
