I usually put the truck into neutral and then apply the parking brake and then put it into park.
Please let us know what the dealer says.

ya know,,i think mine slipped out of park also;;i thought i left it in reverse untill i read these threads,,,if i did leave it in reverse and got out of the truck it would have been the first time in my life i did that,,( which is unlikely),,anyways,,i got out of the truck and walked around the back of it,,noticed the backup lights on,,bit the truck wasn"t moving so i thought it was a clich or something,,went into the house for acouple of minutes and when i came back out the truck was heading out into the woods,,cost me a rear bumper,,the part where it wasn"t moving with the backup lights on fooled me,,i thought that"s the way things were when the tranny is cold,,but i tryed putting it in reverse when cold the other day and it moved right away,,so it must have slipped out of park,,,I'm never going to leave it running when I"m not in it again

My 03 has done what the lawsuit is probably aimed at, had the truck in park, removed the key and when I started to get out it moved a foot, stopped ,then moved another foot or two. I hit the brakes then it seemed to hold. this was on a nearly flat driveway. now I just wait til I hear a click before gettin out, only did this twice so far. not in the habit of using the parking brake on flat surfaces.

Does anybody make sure the shifter is actually latched into the "park" position before getting out of the truck? I can't see how the lever could possibly drop into reverse if "park" is fully engaged.

ed paul, that is EXACTLY what mine did, thank God i caught it b4 it went into traffic. it seems these 3rd gens have a hard time fully engaging into park. a few times i shift into park and the little indicator doesnt show its in and i have to try 2 or 3 times to get it to engage. is there an adjustment maybe?

My 05 was the same [hard to get out of park] untill it ran away from me and ended up in a ditch. Chrysler has done the adjustments on the cable etc and now it is a lot better. I still do not trust it.

This truck was parked all day and I only reached in to fire it up, never even sat in the seat. Next thing you know there it was gone. If this thing was not in park why did it start?

All of you guys that think that it is operator error I hope that if it happens to you nobody gets hurt but your truck spends a month in the shop.

Mine has the same problem. What I do now is put it in N then set the parking break tight and put it in P. This is the only way I will not have to muscle it out of P the next time I drive. If the truck is at an incline and moves just a tad after it was in P, I will have to muscle it out even if I set the parking break in N.

I thought this would have been taken care of when they rebuilt my tranny, but its still there. I think it is something mechanical with the break pedal switch that releases the lever.

Any thoughts?

Judging by the replies and experiences many have had on this thread alone (including me) I do not see how Dodge can chalk this up to carelessness, or "stupidity"!
