I am stuck with out a vehicle and I need help before the weekend is over!
Hello all, I am hoping that maybe some one can point me in the right direction on this........
I have a 2003, 3500 srw, that has a crazy issue. A week ago I got the "abs and brake light" and did some research on it and found my right side abs sensor is bad so I know that is an issue and I was going to fix that today, but yesterday I was presented with another fun mystery to solve!!! Started my truck drove it and it felt like it started out in third gear (yes I have had the stupid solenoid issue and just replaced them again for the 3rd time this year) but as I drove the it started shifting fine. I ran my errands and when I stopped and put it in park, got back in it to back up and leave, well that's were it gets bad. It will go in reverse, but won't move, it's like I have the park brake on!!! So after I pushed it backwards with the truck turned off and got to where I could drive and cursing the entire time, I realized it has not shifted! When I looked to make sure I was in drive, well I wasn't I was in neutral, which will drive like it's in first gear!!
So after pulling over, I go through all the gear and 1st, 2nd, and drive all shifts fine. It goes into OD, and if I turn OD off it will turn off and shift down. But reverse and neutral won't do what they should, and try searching for that nothing comes back really of the same caliber.
Could this be the governor sensor and pressure regulator in the pan again causing this? Or am in screwed and need a new trans?
Thank you to all in advance, you've always been a great resource!

Had this happen to me in my 91. Mine turned out to be a smoked and welded together low/reverse clutch assembly. All forward gears worked just fine, reverse was locked up and it would move in neutral. How does your fluid look and smell? Mine did it after my not so smart side tried to power brake burnout with 33s. Think I drove it that way for about a year or so before I tore into it. Just had to watch where I parked. Probably would have drove it longer if the cooler lines wouldn't have rubbed together and put a hole in one of them which smoked it the rest of the way.

Thank you for the reply. I can imagine that maybe the case, I did replacements on the solenoid and pressure regulators yesterday and that didn't do anything. I was hoping some that it was not a bizarre thing.
Update
So you have to hear this one what a fluke. My son is talking to a guy that use to be a dodge lead mechanic. This guy is telling him that it is more then likely electrical. To make a long story short the guy maybe kinda right. I took off all of the connectors cleaned, cleaned the ground, and put it all back together and it was a bit better, but now the crazy part, reverse would still not work. So I turned off the truck, put it in neutral and then 4 low. Started the truck with in neutral and it wasn't all the way engaged and i pushed, it grinded and popped into 4 low and that made it so reverse worked. I can take it out of 4low, 4hi, normal driving and it is all working. My issue now it the 4x4 light is on when in 2 wheel drive.
Any thoughts on this? Is it a torque converter lockup? Do I need one? I am sure the problem isn't magically fixed.

Its a new one to me..
How does the fluid look? I cant see a locked converter locking up the trans in reverse with forward engagement in neutral. You may have freed the low reverse clutch pack. Does it slip in reverse or first now?

No it goes in reverse just fine, but if the engine is cold or I haven't driven it for several hours it is like when a "manual trans" has a clutch going out. It will reve up and finally start going. After it heats up the truck will drive like a champion
If it runs good when hot, means the fluid is thin and getting by whatever debris is blocking it. You need to check the fluid, level, color, smell. From the way it sounds, it is internal in the transmission and not the converter. Sorry to say but you will more than likely be pulling the trans and doing an overhaul.
