4 wheel drive problem

This is a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500, 5.9 Cummins diesel, automatic, 4WD with about 50,000 miles.

The problem is that when I shift into 4WD High, it won't stay in gear at any speed. The shift lever just kicks back into 2WD, unless I phyically hold it into the 4WD position. Also, sometimes when I put it into reverse it doesn't catch, until I wiggle the shifter.

Any thoughts as to the cause??

Move the shift linkage about a 1/4" and retighten. Make sure to mark the present location of it with a sharpie. I had the same issue last winter. It would stay in 4hi for anywhere from 10ft to 2 blocks then kick out.
