4.56's (are they to low)
Hello I'm matt this is my first post and I was wondering if the 4.56's in the powerwagon would be to low for everyday driving. I only go offroading like 3 times a month with work and this will be my daily commuter. Also let me know if this is a good deal on this truck. Im gonna get an 06 2500 slt powerwagon w/ the cummins. also , are the elctronic disconnceting sway bar on this truck reliable as far as the electronics. One final question for you, does this come with the heavy-duty vinyl flooring or can you order it that way. Thanks sorry for the long post.
I have an 05 powerwagon and you can not get it with the cummins...AAM doesn't make a rearend large enough with the lockers to support the torque from the cummins....and also the 4:56's are not oo low because it comes with a 5 speed automatic....i have my 05 with 8k on it and i love it....have a dumpbody insert in it and haul a full cord of firewood.....also have a 8.5' fisher snowplow and i love it....its a bulldozer.....check out my Pic....let me know if you have any other questions!!!

a cummins in a powerwagon would be cool as hell
but there are a couple of reasons why it's not an option,
1. the rear axle. as stated before, the powerwagon uses a AAM 10.5 rear with a selectable locker. the cummins uses a AAM 11.5. there is no selectable locker for this rear end yet.
2. the front axle is a AAM 9.25, and with 610 lb. ft of tq. and lockers and the very heavy cummins sitting over it, it will not last long at all.
3. the factory winch on the powerwagon is mounted right behind the front bumper and there is no way to mount it there in a cummins powered truck. the intercooler and all the other coolers would be in the way.
but to answer your question, 4.56 gears and a cummins to totally overkill and not needed. for a daily driver 3.73's are the best if u drive on the highway. If your planning on bigger tires, (which u propably are), 4.10's would be better off-road. if your heart is set on a powerwagon your gonna have to get a hemi.

4.56 gears with the cummins would need 40" tires to get any decent speed out of it. My truck with 4.10's and 35" tires is geared too low to get decent fuel economy on the interstate.
As i stated before if the power wagon was available with the cummins i would own one....and the 4.56's are not too low in it the way they have it set up is becasue the hemi has a 5 speed auto behind it......and ity works quite well....and not to rag on the cummins because i own one of those too....that hemi with those gears and that tranny is quite capable of pullin side by side with it......but the diesel with 3.73's does eat it up from 55 to 80mph....but off the line the hemi is all over it....IMO......let me know
